THE SAILING AREA
Corfu is known as "the green island" thanks to its lush vegetation. It offers a diverse backdrop: fascinating mountains, wide sandy beaches, anchorages with rustic tavernas, olive groves and hills with evergreen cypresses, rocky coves with crystal-clear water, tourist-developed coastal stretches and dreamy villages with simple huts. Culturally, Corfu has been shaped by the Corinthians, the Venetians and the English, among others.
Just a few nautical miles east of Corfu, we sail past the bare mountain ridges (1,300 m high) of the Greek mainland, which drop steeply towards the coast. Shallow lagoons and deserted sandy beaches alternate with sheltered anchorages and idyllic fishing harbours.
Under full sail we reach the rugged west coast of the island of Paxos. In a perfectly sheltered anchorage we enjoy the sunset with a sundowner drink or experience a shared restaurant visit in a small fishing village. With good winds, the week-long trip may take us as far as Lefkada, one of the most beautiful islands in the Ionian Sea.
In this sailing area there are countless beautiful anchorages, high mountain ridges, valleys and coastal stretches with lush pine forests and towns with visible cultural wealth: plenty of nature, plenty of Greece. Here in Odysseus' realm, the sailor's heart gets its money's worth!
In summer the winds are steady. From the end of May to the end of September, the wind blows predominantly from north-westerly directions. After a very light morning breeze, the wind often freshens to force 2–5 around midday. The weather is almost always sunny and temperatures in July and August reach around 32°C, which are quite bearable on the water. In late summer there may occasionally be a brief shower.
Water temperature avg. 20–25°C

LIFE ON BOARD
The Ionian Sea captivates not only with its distinctive flora but also with special wind conditions. Whilst the Aegean is usually characterised by strong winds, the west of Greece is somewhat calmer. Perfect for beginners!
The crew plans the sailing route together with the skipper. The desires, mood and various interests of those sailing along, as well as wind, weather and organisational aspects are all taken into account. The skipper instructs the entire crew: sailing to get hands-on and experience! At the beginning of the trip, the ship's kitty is set up for all running trip expenses as well as for basic provisions on board.
