Training approach

No classroom teaching.

The participant plans, decides, delegates – and bears responsibility.

Area focus: Elbe & North Sea

The training deliberately uses the distinctive features of one of Europe's most demanding sailing areas. And where poor decisions can have serious consequences:

Tide and current
Commercial and large vessel navigation
Traffic separation schemes
Narrow channels and navigation marks
Harbour approaches by day and night (navigation lights)
Weather changes and restricted visibility

Navigation with and without charts

Training objective

The aim is to enable skippers to

act confidently and independently in any situation,
consciously assume and delegate responsibility,
manage the crew efficiently – making yourself 'dispensable'
to make clear and efficient decisions under pressure.

The Instructor: Claus

Claus is an experienced skipper, mentor and instructor for SBF See and SKS practical trips. For many years he has combined professional sailing instruction with clear, structured guidance and genuine responsibility on board. He brings extensive practical experience at sea as well as many years of experience working with executives and teams. His focus is on safe manoeuvring, confident decision-making and sound teamwork – exactly what counts in exams and later in command of your own vessel. Claus does not just teach exam manoeuvres, but genuine understanding of seamanship, responsibility and situational action. Clear, calm and without show – but with high professional competence and the aspiration to make every participant truly safe at sea.
