Sailing weekend on a traditional sailing vessel – including barbecue evening – German Unity Day

Flat-bottomed ships on the Baltic Sea? Surely they belong on the IJsselmeer! The robust, seaworthy flat-bottomed ships were, however, already being used as cargo vessels in the Scandinavian region in the first half of the 20th century. The Pegasus's shallow draught is ideal for exploring shallow coastal areas whilst still ensuring high stability in rough seas. Perfect, then, for a trip to the Danish South Sea Islands or along the German Baltic coast.

Anyone who wants to get to know sailing is in exactly the right place on this trip. On this short sailing trip you can gain an impression of what it's like to let the wind take you to your destination. Together with the captain and mate, sails are set, manoeuvres executed and the sails stowed again before reaching the harbour. In this way you get the opportunity to be an active part of the crew and learn a great deal about traditional sailing.

During sailing there's also plenty of time to lie on deck and rest, enjoy yourself, read, chat, peel potatoes, play board games, pepper the crew with questions, steer the ship (under supervision), practise knots, knit, and so on…

The larders are richly stocked with everything needed for a proper barbecue. The meat from the local butcher is not to be missed! But don't worry, our vegetarians won't go short either. We'll feast magnificently and the harbour where we barbecue invites you to stroll and walk around.

On the first sailing day, after breakfast you'll receive a detailed explanation of the ship and the sails and a safety briefing. Then the sails are hoisted together and course is set for the first destination harbour. The adventure begins! Cooking is done either whilst underway or in harbour. Guests prepare the meals together in small groups (according to a galley rota) and are supported by a trip guide. The trip guide does the shopping in advance and provides the recipes. They are on hand as a contact person during cooking.

Where the voyage takes us will be decided depending on wind and weather and discussed on board with all those sailing. Relaxing days with sunshine and light winds are just as possible as days with strong winds and challenging sailing – it's the mix that counts.

A stopover in the Danish South Sea Islands is likely. This idyllic island archipelago south of Denmark is characterised by clear waters, historic towns and charming fishing villages. No trace of hotel towers or mass tourism. A sailing trip offers you the perfect perspective to experience the beauty of this region. But the German coast with its fjords also offers a varied sailing area… How about a detour to Kappeln on the Schlei or Flensburg, for example?

The trip will take place on the two-masted clipper Pegasus and will be accompanied by an experienced and qualified crew. There will be approximately 6–18 guests on board. The Pegasus has a very large saloon, which receives plenty of daylight through the deck hatches and is therefore pleasantly bright. It is divided into two parts: a cosy lounge area and a dining area. On the Pegasus there are a total of 7 spacious and bright cabins, of which 5 cabins have 2 berths and 2 cabins have 4 berths. All cabins have their own washbasin with hot and cold running water, mirror, heating, opening porthole, 220V sockets and storage space. The berths are freshly made up with bed linen and pillowcase; a duvet can also be hired if required.
