Denmark, a country with more than 444 islands, 368 of which are uninhabited, is a paradise for lovers of the sea and sailing. Even on the mainland, you are never further than 32 kilometres from the coast, which shows why the sea is so deeply rooted in Danish culture.

🔹A historic sailing experience aboard the Aron
One of the best ways to discover these islands is aboard the traditional schooner Aron. This beautiful historic Danish sailing vessel, operated by experienced skippers Gorm and Helene, offers an authentic sailing experience. Both skippers were born and raised on the Danish islands and therefore know the best and most hidden places to take their guests.

🔹Starting point: Svendborg
Your adventure begins in the charming town of Svendborg, which lies in the south of the island of Funen. The Danish South Sea Islands are known for their sheltered, calm waters and moderate winds, making them a perfect sailing area for getting started with traditional sailing. Aboard the Aron you will learn the tricks and techniques of sailing in a safe and supportive environment whilst enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The low waves and minimal swell ensure that sailing between the islands rarely leads to seasickness, so you can enjoy your time on the water to the full.

🔹Discovering countless destinations along the way
During the voyage we let the wind determine which islands and places we will visit. The possibilities are endless: from the almost Caribbean-like beach of Lundeborg to Gorm's home village of Troense, the fishing village of Bagenkop, the seafarer's town of Marstal, the adventurous Ærøskøbing or one of the idyllic little islands.

🔹Characterful islands with atmosphere
Perhaps we will call at Skarø, famous for its world-renowned ice cream, or at Drejø with its fascinating history. Perhaps we will sail to Lyø with its picturesque village and mystical bell stone, or to Strynø, where you can visit the tasting centre. Perhaps we will also explore Avarnakø with its many hills.

What all these islands have in common is their rich cultural history and cosy atmosphere. On the small islands you can relax and feel the rhythm of life as it was a few generations ago.

🔹Cabin charter: Learning, experiencing and enjoying together
On all cabin charter trips aboard the Aron, good sailing, pleasant company and active participation (within your own abilities) in all daily tasks on board are at the heart of the experience. Alongside the sailing you will be treated to tasty, home-cooked meals prepared from fresh, regional ingredients. Helene, who has extensive experience of cooking on ships, puts together a varied menu – from traditional Danish specialities to international dishes inspired by her many travels. Sustainability and organic principles are paramount, with particular emphasis on seasonal and regional produce.

🔹Tip: Svendborg can be reached by train from Hamburg via Odense in less than 5 hours. Those with a very long journey can also fly to Copenhagen. From there you can reach the departure harbour by train in approximately 3 hours.

🔹Life on board:
Don't worry, no sailing experience is necessary – everyone can take part! The Aron is sailed by an experienced and qualified crew who will accompany you whilst sailing.

Upon your arrival on board you will be welcomed by the captain and his crew and the most important "ship's rules" will be explained to you. You will get to know your fellow crew and the voyage/route will be discussed together. On the first day of sailing you will also receive a detailed explanation of the vessel and the sails. Then the sails are hoisted and we set sail to head for the first destination harbour. The adventure begins!

You are of course warmly invited to lend a hand, whether setting sails, during manoeuvres or in the galley! You are also welcome to take the helm yourself, climb into the jib net or even up the mast. There is much to experience and much to learn about traditional sailing. Alongside active sailing, there is also time along the way to relax, have nice conversations with fellow crew or simply enjoy the surroundings.

Naturally, besides the sailing there is always plenty of time to get to know the country and its people. The route is never fixed in advance but depends on weather and wind. Restful days with sunshine and swimming are just as possible as days with strong winds and challenging sailing – it's the mix that makes it.

🔹The Ship:
Built in 1906, the traditional schooner Aron offers sustainable sailing holidays in Denmark, where you can immerse yourself in life as it was around 115 years ago. Built from solid oak, the vessel has excellent sailing characteristics typical of shipbuilder Lars Jensen Bager from the Bager shipyard in Marstal, Denmark.

The vessel offers comfortable sleeping accommodation for up to 12 guests, divided into four double cabins and one triple cabin. Each cabin is equipped with its own washbasin, towels, bedding and USB charging points. There is a shower on board, but often the facilities ashore are so good that it's worth using them.
