The Sportk\u00fcstenschifferschein (SKS)<\/b><\/span> is the official licence for leisure skippers who wish to command yachts in coastal waters \u2013 that is, up to 12 nautical miles from the coast. For private trips the SKS is legally speaking<\/i> not strictly required (here the SBF See<\/b><\/span><\/a> suffices as the basic licence), but in practice the SKS is demanded by many charter companies as a \"charter licence\"<\/b><\/span> was required.<\/p>\n

So if you want to charter a larger sailing yacht in the Mediterranean or a trip in the Baltic, the SKS significantly increases your chances. Moreover, the SKS is Required<\/b><\/span>if you commercially<\/b><\/span> command (for example as a professional skipper with paying guests). The Sportk\u00fcstenschifferschein can be issued in credit-card format with international recognition and contains the ICC (International Certificate of Competence)<\/span> \u2013 making it accepted worldwide as proof of competence.
