With more than 1,000 berths it is the largest marina on the Croatian coast. Here you can read where exactly it is, how to approach and moor, how to get there from Zadar airport, what you need to know for your first day and which islands you can reach in a day's sail (as at October 2026).

The essentials at a glance

Marina Dalmacija today belongs to the D-Marin marina group and operates as D-Marin Dalmacija. It is located in Zlatna luka bay; the address is given as Sukošan, although part of the facility belongs to the neighbouring municipality of Bibinje.

Zadar airport is around seven kilometres away as the crow flies; by car you'll be there in about ten minutes. Zadar itself is around 20 minutes away.

The marina monitors VHF channel 17. It has its own fuel station, a supermarket, restaurants and a beach with beach club.

Ugljan lies directly opposite: Kukljica is about 3 nautical miles away, Zadar about 6. If your yacht fits under the Ždrelac bridge, it's around 11 nautical miles to Žut at the edge of the Kornati.

In an emergency on land dial 112. At sea you can reach sea rescue on VHF channel 16 or by calling 195.

Where is Marina Dalmacija located?

Marina Dalmacija lies on the mainland coast of northern Dalmatia in Zlatna Luka Bay, halfway between the village of Bibinje to the northwest and the old town centre of Sukošan to the southeast. The Zadar Channel lies in front of the bay; on the other side you can see the islands of Ugljan and Pašman.

The marina was built between 1978 and 1989 and stretches far along the bay. Because it extends across the municipal boundary, you'll find it listed under both place names: the postal address is Sukošan, whilst older references cite "Bibinje-Sukošan". It's always the same marina. Locally it's often also known by its bay name "Zlatna Luka" — the Golden Bay.

You could only confuse it with the small village harbour of Sukošan. It lies about a kilometre further southeast in front of the old town centre, has only a short quay wall and two small harbour basins, and does not belong to the marina. If you're coming by taxi, therefore give the full name "Marina Dalmacija" or "D-Marin Dalmacija".

Marina Dalmacija at a glance

Details

Position

approx. 44° 03.2′ N, 015° 18.1′ E

Location

Zlatna Luka Bay between Bibinje and Sukošan, Zadar County

Operator

D-Marin

Address

Dr. Franje Tuđmana 24, 23206 Sukošan

Berths

more than 1,000 in the water, plus around 300 ashore

Yacht size

up to 70 m length, up to 6 m draught

VHF channel

17

Travellifts

30 t, 35 t and 80 t

Car parks

1,200, plus 248 individual garages

Phone

+385 23 200 300 (office hours), emergency +385 99 200 0120

What does Marina Dalmacija offer?

Marina Dalmacija is a large-scale marina with everything a crew needs before and after a trip: electricity and water round the clock at the berth, sanitary facilities, fuel station, supermarket, several restaurants and a large boatyard. More than a dozen charter companies have their base here.

At the berth and ashore

The berths have electricity at 220 and 380 volts and water, plus there's Wi-Fi throughout the marina. There are specially suitable berths for catamarans and a transit pontoon for superyachts up to 70 metres. There are showers and toilets as well as a laundry. Security personnel and cameras monitor the marina round the clock.

Boatyard and service

Three travellifts of 30, 35 and 80 tonnes and three crane basins lift yachts out of the water; around 300 ashore berths are available on land, some of them on raised hardstanding. Businesses for engines, electronics, sails, upholstery, boat joinery, metalwork and antifouling operate in the marina, along with a chandlery, a travel agency and a diving centre. Major work on the boat is not permitted at the berth; it must be carried out in the boatyard area.

Dining, beach and leisure

The marina has a café-restaurant, a café-bar and the Portus Beach Club with restaurant. Sunbeds and beach huts are available on the marina's pebble beach, and there's a playground for children. The marina holds the Blue Flag, the environmental award for harbours and beaches.

How do you enter Marina Dalmacija?

You enter Zlatna Luka Bay from the Zadar Channel; the marina lies along the bay's shore. The bay is around 11 metres deep in the centre; the marina accepts yachts with up to 6 metres draught.

Call ahead before entry on VHF channel 17. The marina will then tell you which pontoon to berth at, and a marinero will help you at the berth. Because the marina is so large, confirm the pontoon and berth number before you enter.

If you're coming from the direction of Zadar, you'll pass Gaženica ferry port on the way. Large ferries to the islands enter and leave there, so keep your distance and watch their course. If you're approaching the marina for the first time, it's best to plan your arrival in daylight.

How do you berth at Marina Dalmacija?

You berth at the place assigned to you by the marina on VHF channel 17, and let the marinero help you. The marina offers help at the pontoon round the clock. If you're arriving late, it's best to announce yourself beforehand on VHF channel 17 or by telephone.

Lay out mooring lines ready before entering and hang fenders on both sides and at the stern, as exactly how you make fast depends on the assigned berth. Keep the boat hook to hand in case you need to pick up a line from the pontoon. The marinero will show you at the berth which line goes where. Don't leave loose items lying on the pontoon.

What do you need for registration?

For registration, you present your boat licence and proof of insurance. If you have already paid arrival fees in advance, bring proof of payment, and if the boat does not belong to you, a letter of authority. The office is available by telephone during office hours; outside those times there is an emergency number.

What rules apply in the marina?

Swimming, diving and fishing are prohibited in the harbour basin. Generators may not be run, open fires, signal flares and fireworks are not permitted. You supervise children under 14 at all times; dogs remain on leads. Rubbish goes in the recycling bins ashore; nothing goes into the water. You wash the boat only with environmentally friendly products.

Good to know for your first day at Marina Dalmacija

For your first shopping you do not need to leave the marina, as it has its own supermarket. For a large weekly shop you drive by car or hire car to Zadar.

Shopping and provisions

The supermarket is located on the marina site, so you can reach it on foot. How long it is open, especially on Sundays and outside the season, you can ask at reception. Larger supermarkets with a full range are in Zadar, about 20 minutes away by car or hire car.

The marina has a concierge service. Whether it also delivers provisions on board or arranges a delivery service, you should clarify with the marina a few days before departure.

Parking and refuelling

With 1,200 parking spaces and 248 individual garages, there is plenty of space at the marina. There are charging stations for electric cars. You refuel with diesel at the marina's fuel station. Ask for its opening hours on arrival so you can refuel before your first leg.

Doctor and pharmacy

For minor injuries there is first aid in the marina. Reception will tell you the nearest doctor's surgery and pharmacy. The nearest hospital is the General Hospital in Zadar.

Emergency numbers in Croatia

112: general emergency number, free from all networks

194: ambulance, 192: police, 193: fire brigade

195: sea rescue (MRCC Rijeka), at sea also VHF channel 16

How do you get to Marina Dalmacija?

The quickest way to reach the marina is via Zadar airport, about ten minutes away by car. By your own car you come via the A1 motorway, whose junction is a few minutes' drive from the marina.

By air

Zadar airport is about seven kilometres as the crow flies northeast of the marina. Directly opposite the exit from the arrivals hall there is a taxi rank available around the clock; numerous car hire companies have a desk in the terminal. The airport bus runs to the city of Zadar, not to Sukošan. For the journey to the marina you therefore take a taxi or hire car. Split is an alternative airport; from there you need about an hour by car.

By car

By car you drive on the Croatian A1 motorway towards Split and leave it in the Zadar area. From there it is only a few minutes to the coast. The marina is right on the coastal road between Zadar and Biograd na Moru.

Which marine weather forecast applies in Sukošan?

For the coast around Zadar the marine weather forecast of the Croatian meteorological service DHMZ applies, issued by the marine weather centre in Split. You can read it on the weather service's website, also in German, or listen to it on VHF.

The report begins with warnings, then the weather situation follows, and the forecast for wind, sea state and visibility for twelve hours, plus an outlook for the following twelve hours. It distinguishes the northern, central and southern Adriatic; a map on the page shows which coast belongs to which section.

The coast radio stations broadcast weather reports and warning messages in English and Croatian on VHF. Split Radio broadcasts at 05:45, 12:45, 19:45 and 00:45 UTC on channels 07, 21, 23, 28, 81 and 84; Rijeka Radio at 05:30, 12:30, 19:30 and 00:30 UTC on channels 04, 19, 20, 23, 24, 81 and 85. In summer that is two hours, in winter one hour later local time.

Which winds play a role here?

In summer the weather on the Dalmatian coast is usually stable; during the day wind regularly picks up from the sea, the Maestral from the northwest. In the cooler half of the year Bora and Jugo blow more frequently and more strongly. The Bora falls cold and gusty from the northeast from the mountains onto the sea; the Jugo from the southeast blows more steadily but builds up high seas over a longer period. In the Zadarski kanal you lie sheltered from the open sea by Ugljan and Pašman. Before you set off for the outer islands or the Kornaten, you still listen to the warnings. More about the wind systems you can read in the article on main winds in the Mediterranean.

Which sailing destinations can you reach from Marina Dalmacija?

From Sukošan you reach Ugljan and Zadar with a short leg, Pašman, Dugi otok and the edge of the Kornaten with half to a full day, if your yacht fits under the Ždrelac bridge. The distances are rounded distances over water on the usual course; for precise planning the chart applies.

Symbolic image

Ugljan and Zadar

Kukljica at the southern tip of Ugljan lies just across the channel only about 3 nautical miles away and suits the first evening well if the trip only begins in the afternoon. To Preko on Ugljan, opposite Zadar, it is about 6 nautical miles. Equally far is the route along the coast to the old town of Zadar.

Pašman and Dugi otok

Through the Pašmanski kanal between Pašman and the mainland you sail southeast. To Tkon on Pašman it is about 10 nautical miles. To Sali on Dugi otok it is also about 10 nautical miles if you take the narrow passage Ždrelac between Ugljan and Pašman. A bridge crosses the passage. Check in the chart before the leg whether the mast height and draught of your yacht fit, otherwise the route goes outside around the islands.

Kornaten

You reach Žut at the edge of the Kornaten via Ždrelac after about 11 nautical miles, provided your yacht fits under the bridge. The Kornati national park comprises 89 islands, islets and reefs. To enter with a boat you need an admission ticket valid for a fixed day; bought in advance it is significantly cheaper than in the park itself. Current prices and rules you can find at Kornati National Park.

Further south

If you sail south through the Pašmanski kanal, you reach Drage after about 16 nautical miles. You can read about the facilities at the marina there in the Marina Drage profile. Further south, in central Dalmatia between Trogir and Split, lies the Marina Kaštela.

What is there to do ashore in Sukošan and Bibinje?

Sukošan and Bibinje are small coastal villages with beaches and a waterfront promenade. That's quite enough for a harbour day, but if you want more city life, head to Zadar. The distances given are as the crow flies from the marina.

Ruins of the Archbishops' summer residence

On a small island in the bay in front of the old centre of Sukošan, about one kilometre southeast of the marina, stand the ruins of a summer residence of the Archbishops of Zadar from the 15th century. The locals call it "Palac".

Sukošan old town

In the old centre stands the Church of St Cassian. It is mentioned as far back as the Middle Ages; its present appearance dates from the 17th century. Offshore, at depths of 1 to 3.5 metres, lie the remains of the Roman landing place Barbir, which belonged to an ancient estate.

Beaches at Zlatna luka

The marina has its own pebble beach with a beach club. At the entrance to Sukošan, coming from Zadar, there is the Zlatna luka pebble beach with tamarisks and pines, showers and changing rooms. For families with small children there is the shallow beach Dječji raj.

Promenade in Bibinje

Bibinje lies about two and a half kilometres northwest of the marina. Along the waterfront runs a promenade from Taline to the square Sri selo in the old village centre, lined with restaurants, konobas and small bars.

Zadar old town

By car or taxi you can be in Zadar in about 20 minutes. On the old town's waterfront promenade plays the Sea Organ, which is made to sound by the waves; beside it is the light installation "Greeting to the Sun". The Venetian defence system of Zadar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Trips from Sukošan on Törnfinder

Trips to the islands off Zadar and to the Kornati begin at Marina Dalmacija. You can find offers throughout the country on Törnfinder under Sailing in CroatiaMany sailing trips depart from Trogir: seven charter companies alone have their base at SCT Marina, and there are also charter agencies at ACI Marina. An overview of offers throughout the country can be found on Törnfinder under Sailing in the Adriatic and all current offers in the trip overview. The licences you need as skipper for a charter trip in Croatia are explained in the article on Licence for Charter in Croatia.

Frequently asked questions

Is Marina Dalmacija in Sukošan or in Bibinje?

In both: the marina lies in Zlatna luka bay between the two places and extends across the municipal boundary. The postal address is Dr. Franje Tuđmana 24, 23206 Sukošan.

How far is Marina Dalmacija from Zadar airport?

About seven kilometres as the crow flies, by car about ten minutes. Taxis are available at the airport around the clock; the airport bus only goes into Zadar city.

On which VHF channel can Marina Dalmacija be reached?

On channel 17. Call ahead before entering and you'll be assigned your berth and a marinero will help with the mooring lines.

Is there a supermarket and a fuel station at Marina Dalmacija?

Yes, both. For a big weekly shop, it's still worth driving to the larger supermarkets in Zadar. Ask at reception for the fuel station's opening hours.

How far is it from Sukošan to the Kornati?

Žut on the edge of the Kornati lies about 11 nautical miles away if you take the Ždrelac passage and your yacht can pass under the bridge (see chart). Otherwise the route is considerably longer. You need an entrance ticket to enter the national park.

Wo die Marina Dalmacija zwischen Bibinje und Sukošan genau liegt, wie du einläufst und anlegst, wie du vom Flughafen Zadar hinkommst und welche Inseln du mit einem Tagesschlag erreichst.

[536

post-1653948","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-reviere-haefen","category-536","description-off
["GET
