It was built in 2003 and belongs to the same operator as Marina Vrsar.

In summer, Funtana thrives on tourism; campsites, hotels and beaches surround the village. Restaurants, shops and cafés are within walking distance of the marina. Several small, uninhabited islands lie off the coast between Funtana and Vrsar.

Arriving at Marina Funtana for the start of your trip

The following sections accompany you from the airport to the pontoon. If you are joining as crew: which pontoon it is will be in your trip documents.

From Pula Airport to Funtana

Pula Airport is about 50 kilometres by road south of Funtana. Direct shuttle buses run from the airport to Poreč and Funtana. The bus companies are listed with links to their websites on the arrival page of the Poreč tourist board . Taxis and pre-booked transfers are available all year round. If your crew is travelling together with luggage for a week, a taxi or transfer is often the most convenient option.

Other airports within reach are Trieste, Rijeka, Ljubljana and Venice. From there you continue by hire car or bus; the journey takes correspondingly longer.

By car, bus, train or catamaran

By car you take the A9, which runs through the peninsula as the Istrian Y, to the Medaki exit and from there to the coast to Funtana.

Long-distance buses connect Poreč with Zagreb, Rijeka, Ljubljana, Trieste and Venice. From the bus station in Poreč a taxi takes you to Funtana in a few minutes. The nearest railway station is in Pazin in the interior of Istria, with trains from Ljubljana. In summer there is also a catamaran service from Venice to Poreč.

Parking

The marina has its own car park. In the village you may only park in designated areas; illegally parked cars may be towed.

Showers and sanitary facilities

The marina has air-conditioned sanitary facilities with showers and a laundry.

Shopping for the trip

For bread, drinks and small items the shop on the marina site is adequate. Further supermarkets are in the village, only a few minutes' walk from the marina. For a big shop before a week's trip you drive by car or taxi to the larger supermarkets in Vrsar or Poreč.

Doctor, pharmacy and emergency services

The doctor's surgery in Funtana at Bernarda Borisia 2 holds surgeries on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 noon to 1.30 pm. In the season there is also a private tourist clinic in the large campsite at Grgeti 35 in Funtana. Surgery hours vary by month, so phone ahead on +385 98 410 680.

The pharmacy is at Istarska 37. In summer it is open daily from 8 am to 9 pm, in winter Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. Open around the clock is the Centar pharmacy in Pula, Giardini 14 (as at October 2026). The nearest hospital is Pula General Hospital at Santoriova 24A.

112: general emergency number for all emergencies

192: police

193: fire brigade

194: ambulance

195: sea rescue, the coastguard coordination centre MRCC Rijeka; at sea you can also reach them on VHF channel 16

What facilities does Marina Funtana have?

Marina Funtana is a small marina open all year round with 180 berths in the water and 40 ashore, all water berths with electricity and water. For work on the boat there is a technical service with a crane.

What winds blow off Funtana?

In summer off the west coast of Istria the Maestral usually blows, a pleasant wind from the northwest which freshens during the day from seaward. In the colder half of the year the Bora and Jugo play the larger role.

The Bora blows cold and gusty from the northeast from the land onto the sea. Off Funtana it therefore comes offshore. The Jugo blows from the southeast from the open sea towards the coast and brings cloud and rain. Check the warnings in the sea area forecast before every passage, even if the morning looks calm.

The west coast of Istria enjoys around 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, with bathing season from May to October. Averaged over the whole season, air temperature is around 12.5 degrees in spring, 23.4 degrees in summer and 15.6 degrees in autumn. When a strong Bora or Jugo is blowing, a day can turn into a harbour day. You can read more about Bora, Jugo and Maestral in our article on Good months for a trip through the region are April, May, September and October. The weather is mild, it's less crowded ashore and the midsummer heat is absent. You can read how the winds in Greece work in our article about.

What sailing destinations lie near Funtana?

From Funtana you can reach the harbours of the Istrian west coast in short passages. The distances are rounded distances over water on the usual course; for precise planning the chart applies.

Islands off the Istrian west coast

Vrsar and the Limski kanal

Vrsar lies around 2 nautical miles to the south, with an old town on the hill above the harbour. Around 4 nautical miles to the south opens the Limski kanal, a flooded karst canyon over twelve kilometres long. It has been protected as a special marine reserve since 1980, and mussels and oysters are cultivated in the brackish water.

Poreč and Rovinj

Poreč lies around 3.5 nautical miles to the north, round the peninsulas of the Zelena laguna. Rovinj you reach after around 7 nautical miles to the south, past the entrance to the Limski kanal.

Further north and south

Novigrad lies around 9 nautical miles to the north, the Slovenian coast with Izola around 27 nautical miles. More on this in our Marina Izola harbour profile. In the south of Istria we present the Marina Veruda in Pula .

What is there to do ashore in Funtana?

Funtana has a 17th-century castle, several old churches, springs by the sea and many beaches. Plenty for a day in port.

Parish church of St Bernard and Kastell Borisi

The parish church of St Bernard was built in 1621, and its 34-metre bell tower is the landmark you can see from the water. The church stands in the town centre, a few minutes' walk from the marina. On a hill stands the castle of the noble Borisi family from 1610, around which the town grew. It is a protected cultural monument, but is not open to the public inside.

Church of Our Lady of Mercy

On the walls of the small church at the northern entrance to the village, probably mediaeval at its core, you can see incised Venetian ships. Sailors left them as thanks for a safe homecoming or as a prayer for a safe voyage — a lovely destination for sailors.

The springs of Funtana

The village takes its name from the freshwater springs right by the sea — "fontana" means spring. They still supply drinking water today. As far back as Roman times, an aqueduct from here supplied a villa with thermal baths on the Zorna promontory in the Green Lagoon. Ships travelling along the west coast took on water there.

Beaches and cycle paths

Many beaches lie around Funtana: Bernardina beach about 700 metres from the village centre, Bijela uvala beach with a Blue Flag at the campsite of the same name. Signposted cycle tours start in the village, such as the easy 15.6-kilometre Krčavela loop through the hinterland.

Excursion to Poreč

In Poreč, around six kilometres to the north, stands the Euphrasian Basilica. The episcopal complex of basilica, atrium, baptistery and bishop's palace has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, and the mosaics in the apse are well preserved.

For skippers: berthing, formalities and sea weather in Marina Funtana

For the marina, use VHF channel 17. Channel 16 is the distress and calling channel, where you can also reach the maritime rescue coordination centre MRCC Rijeka.

Registration and Berthing

It is best to contact the marina in advance on VHF channel 17 or by telephone on +385 52 428 500 and ask about your berth. Berths can also be requested in advance; on the operator's website you will find the current price list and an enquiry form.

All water berths have a double mooring. You reverse onto the pontoon, hand over the stern lines and haul the mooring lines taut at the bow. Before entering, prepare fenders on both sides and long stern lines.

After making fast, report to reception.

Approach

The safest approach to Funtana Bay is from the west. The village with its bell tower on the hill serves as a landmark, and the entrance is marked by a green light at the head of the breakwater.

The bay has several hazards, so a careful look at the chart is worthwhile. On the north side lies the shoal Janjci. It is marked by a black isolated danger mark with two red bands and two black spheres as topmark. At the southern headland of the entrance, between the small island of Veli školj and the coast, lies the shoal Funtana, also marked by a seamark. Around 200 metres west of the jetty there are also rocks and reefs.

On your first visit it is best to arrive in daylight: the green harbour light does not carry far, and the shoals at the edge of the bay are difficult to assess at night.

Fuel, crane and dry berths

Marina Funtana has no fuel berth of its own. The nearest boat fuel station is in Marina Vrsar, around 2 nautical miles to the south, close to the berths.

The 40 dry berths are suitable for boats that come out of the water outside the season.

What applies with a yacht under a foreign flag?

If you are arriving from a Schengen country such as Slovenia or Italy, there is no border control and you may call at any harbour. If you are arriving from a country outside the Schengen area, you first call at a harbour with a border crossing. In both cases you register with the harbour master's office and pay the fee for safety of navigation, which is calculated according to boat length and engine power and is valid for the whole calendar year. In addition there is tourist tax for everyone sleeping on board. Before leaving Croatia you have the crew list confirmed by the harbour master's office. The nearest branch of the harbour master's office is in Poreč, telephone +385 52 431 663. An overview is provided by the Croatian National Tourist Board website.

Which sea area forecast applies in Funtana?

For Istria the sea area forecast from the Croatian meteorological service DHMZ for the northern Adriatic applies. You can read it on the weather service website, also in German, or listen to it on VHF.

The report begins with warnings, then follows the weather situation, the forecast for wind, sea state and visibility for twelve hours and an outlook for the following twelve hours. The coast radio station Rijeka Radio broadcasts weather reports and warning messages in English and Croatian at 05:30, 12:30, 19:30 and 00:30 UTC on VHF channels 04, 19, 20, 23, 24, 81 and 85, in summer two hours, in winter one hour later local time.

In addition, VHF channel 73 broadcasts a continuous weather forecast for the west coast of Istria, also in German. It is updated morning, midday and evening and contains an overview, a short forecast for 24 hours and the barometric pressure.

Trips from Funtana on Törnfinder

In October 2026 there are 27 trip dates on Törnfinder over the next twelve months with departure or destination in Marina Funtana.
