Both harbours are on the edge of the city centre; for the last bit you take a taxi or walk.

From A Coruña or Santiago airport to the harbours

A Coruña airport (Alvedro) is in the neighbouring municipality of Culleredo, about eight kilometres from the city centre. The quickest way to reach the harbour directly is by taxi; there is no fixed fare, as the journey is charged by taximeter. The A4 bus line operated by Alsa is cheaper: it runs via Praza de Ourense to Hospital Abente y Lago on the harbour promenade. From there it is about 350 metres to Marina Coruña and a good 600 metres to the Real Club Náutico.

Santiago de Compostela airport is about twelve kilometres outside Santiago. From there, a taxi takes about 15 minutes to get into the city. From Santiago station you can take the train to A Coruña along the 61-kilometre Atlantic Axis line. There is also a bus run by Monbus that goes directly from Santiago airport to A Coruña bus station, which since 3 November 2026 has been located in the new bus terminal of the intermodal station at the railway station.

By car or train

By car you reach A Coruña on the AP-9 motorway from the direction of Santiago and Vigo. By train you come via Santiago or by high-speed train direct from Madrid. A Coruña station is in the south of the city centre, as the crow flies just under two kilometres from Real Club Náutico. For the last stretch you take a taxi.

Which harbour is where?

The two harbours lie on the same waterfront promenade, but they are separate facilities, each with its own entrance and harbour office. So tell the taxi driver “Real Club Náutico” or “Marina Coruña”. The club also operates its harbour under the name Marina Real. The Real Club Náutico is closer to the old town and Praza de María Pita, while Marina Coruña is further out, near Castillo de San Antón.

Parking

There is parking near both harbours. Parking Marina Coruña belongs to Marina Coruña and is located on the harbour grounds at Muelle de las Ánimas, about 300 metres as the crow flies from Marina Coruña and about 750 metres from the Real Club Náutico. As things currently stand (November 2026), it costs 1.85 euros per hour and a maximum of 28 euros per day, or 119 euros for a fixed space for one month. Parking Metrosidero is on the edge of the old town, about 650 metres from the Real Club Náutico and a good 700 metres from Marina Coruña. The Marina Coruña car park also has charging points for electric cars.

Arrived early: old town and waterfront promenade

If your flight lands long before the meeting on board, your time is best spent on the waterfront promenade. Under the arcades of the glass galleries on Avenida da Mariña, directly opposite Real Club Náutico, there are cafés and restaurants with a view of the boats. Behind them begins the old town with Praza de María Pita, as the crow flies around 350 metres from Real Club Náutico and just under a kilometre from Marina Coruña. From Marina Coruña you walk over the footbridge to Castillo de San Antón, which stands on a small island right next to the harbour.

Showers and sanitary facilities

Both harbours have showers and sanitary facilities. The Real Club Náutico also has a self-service laundry and step-free access.

Shopping for the trip

The nearest supermarket to Real Club Náutico is a Mercadona north of Avenida da Mariña, as the crow flies a good 550 metres; from Marina Coruña it's a good 1.2 kilometres. A Gadis is west of the Dársena, around 700 metres from Real Club Náutico. From Marina Coruña the walk with full bags is long; a taxi or the car is more convenient for the big shop. At Marina Coruña there is a cafeteria and a restaurant; at Real Club Náutico a bar with restaurant and a chandlery.

At the Real Club Náutico, you can have your shopping delivered to your boat.

Doctor, pharmacy and emergency services

The A&E department is at Hospital Universitario de A Coruña in the As Xubias district. Hospital Abente y Lago directly on the harbour promenade, as the crow flies around 350 metres from Marina Coruña and a good 600 metres from Real Club Náutico, belongs to the same hospital trust but has no A&E. The nearest chemist is Farmacia Central west of the Dársena, around 600 metres from Real Club Náutico and a good one and a half kilometres from Marina Coruña.

112: general emergency number, free from all networks

900 202 202: Salvamento Marítimo, free emergency number for emergencies at sea when you call from land

At sea: VHF channel 16

Where is Real Club Náutico de A Coruña?

The harbour of Real Club Náutico is in the Dársena da Mariña, the old harbour basin at Muelle Arzobispo Gelmírez. Immediately behind it stand the houses with their glazed galleries on Avenida da Mariña; only a few steps further on begins the old town.

The club operates the harbour under the name Marina Real, with around 360 berths on floating pontoons, including spaces for visiting yachts up to 30 metres in length. The entrance is 30 metres wide and about six metres deep.

Facilities at Real Club Náutico

The berths have water, electricity and Wi-Fi. There is also a petrol fuel station, a bar and restaurant, a chandlery, a slipway and a 32-tonne gantry crane. There is a waiting pontoon, and the harbour is lit at night and guarded around the clock.

Where is Marina Coruña?

Marina Coruña is east of the Dársena da Mariña at Muelle de las Ánimas, between the large breakwater Barrié de la Maza and Castillo de San Antón. The breakwater protects the basin from the open bay; it's just under a kilometre on foot to the old town along the waterfront promenade.

With more than 400 berths at pontoons with finger berths, it is the larger of the two harbours. It also takes large yachts over 30 metres, with water around nine metres deep at the entrance and around six metres in the basin.

The berthing fee depends on the boat's length and the season. As things currently stand (November 2026), one night in high season, from 1 June to 30 September, costs 33 euros for a boat up to 10 metres, 46 euros up to 12 metres and 55 euros up to 14 metres. From October to May the rates are 25, 32 and 40 euros, in each case including VAT and harbour fees.

Facilities at Marina Coruña

The berths have water, electricity and Wi-Fi, and the fuel station is open around the clock. The harbour has a crane and a slipway. The Marina Coruña boatyard is not at Muelle de las Ánimas but in the Dársena de Oza in the southeast of the bay. There you will find a travel lift, storage areas outdoors and in a hall, a sailmaker, a rigging workshop and an engine service. Muelle de las Ánimas also has a café with a restaurant, a car park and storage boxes.

What is the weather like for sailing in A Coruña?

In spring and summer northerly winds frequently blow on the Galician coast, in A Coruña usually as a north-easterly called Nordés in Galicia. It brings clear skies. When it drops and the wind veers to westerly, fog often rolls in along the coast. In the cold half of the year Atlantic lows with fronts from the south-west and north-west move through, often with strong winds and high swell.

The Spanish weather service AEMET issues yellow warnings for the Atlantic coast from wind force 7 or four-metre waves, and orange warnings from force 8 or five metres. A Coruña has tides with high and low water twice daily; at spring tides the higher water level intensifies the effect of storm and swell on the coast.

Where can you go from A Coruña?

Off A Coruña lie the Rías Altas, deeply cut bays with harbours that can be reached in short day sails. To the west, beyond Malpica, begins the open Costa da Morte as far as Cape Finisterre, with the Rías Baixas further south beyond it.

Sada: around 8 nm, in the Ría de Betanzos to the southeast, a short first hop straight across the bay.

Ferrol: around 11 nm, at the end of the long, narrow Ría de Ferrol northeast of A Coruña.

Malpica: around 21 nm westward, a fishing harbour at the start of the Costa da Morte; the Islas Sisargas lie off the coast.

Cedeira: around 27 nm to the northeast, in a small ría.

Camariñas: around 48 nm, in a ría on the Costa da Morte north of Cape Finisterre.

Baiona: around 110 nm, in the Rías Baixas near the Portuguese border, a destination for a multi-day trip around Cape Finisterre.

All distances given are rounded over-water distances on the usual course; for precise planning refer to the chart. If you sail further south, you'll find harbours in the portrait of Marinas in Lisbon; to the north across Biscay lies Brest with its Marinas.

What can you do ashore in A Coruña?

Most destinations are within walking distance from both harbours. The old town starts directly behind the Real Club Náutico; it's a good two kilometres to the Torre de Hércules at the tip of the peninsula.

Torre de Hércules: The Romans built the lighthouse at the end of the 1st century; it took its present form in the 18th century. The harbour office is staffed from 9am to 2pm and from 3pm to 6pm; outside these hours the marina can be reached around the clock. In strong winds there is a swell in the basin.

Approach

The bay of A Coruña opens to the north. The Torre de Hércules at the tip of the peninsula serves as a landmark and marks the entrance to the bay. Its white light shows a group of four flashes every 20 seconds and has a range of 23 nautical miles. Inside, the long Barrié de la Maza breakwater protects Marina Coruña and, behind it, the Dársena da Mariña.

Orcas off Galicia

In recent years there have been encounters between orcas and sailing boats off the Galician coast, somewhat more frequent along the north coast in 2025 than the year before. The Spanish ministries of environment and transport have published a map of risk areas along the Galician coast. They recommend avoiding these areas where possible and sailing close to shore, especially from April to October. If you encounter orcas, do not stop but head towards the coast or shallower water, and report the encounter to the nearest maritime rescue centre on VHF channel 16 (as at October 2026). Any means that could injure or disturb the animals are prohibited. The current Environment Ministry guidance is available online in Spanish.

Which sea weather forecast applies in A Coruña?

For A Coruña the coastal weather forecast of the Spanish meteorological service AEMET for the area "Aguas costeras de A Coruña" applies. It extends up to 20 nautical miles offshore and gives warnings, wind, sea state and visibility. You can read it on the AEMET website.

Over VHF the sea rescue service Salvamento Marítimo broadcasts the weather forecasts: they announce them on Channel 16 and then transmit them on a working channel. Via NAVTEX the station A Coruña transmits on 518 kHz in English and on 490 kHz in Spanish.

Trips from A Coruña on Törnfinder

Im Oktober 2026 gibt es auf Törnfinder 1 Törntermin in den nächsten zwölf Monaten mit Start oder Ziel A Coruña.

An overview of trips throughout the country can be found under Sailing in Spain, for trips further south along the Atlantic coast under Sailing in Portugal.
