The Airport Express 600 bus departs from outside the terminal. It connects the airport with Titanic Belfast and Belfast Grand Central station in the centre, every 20 minutes at peak times. The journey to Grand Central takes around 10 minutes. Tickets are available from the machine at the stop and from the driver, and you can also pay contactless on the bus.

Belfast International Airport is around 30 minutes by car from Titanic Belfast. From there, the Airport Express 300 runs to Belfast every day of the week, every 15 minutes at peak times from Monday to Friday. The journey takes 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. In the centre, you change to a bus or the Glider towards the Titanic Quarter. From Dublin Airport, around 90 minutes away by car, regular bus services run to Belfast.

By train, bus, car or ferry

From the centre, the Glider rapid bus runs on the G2 line to the Titanic Quarter, and the Titanic stop is right outside Titanic Belfast. City buses 26, 26A, 26B and 26C also run there from the Belfast Welcome Centre. The nearest railway station is Titanic Quarter, on the lines to Bangor and Portadown. From there, you cross a footbridge and walk for around 15 minutes to Titanic Belfast. On foot, it is around 2.4 kilometres or 25 to 30 minutes from the centre.

By car, from the M1 or M2 you follow the signs for Belfast City Airport onto the M3 and take the first exit, Titanic Quarter. In Northern Ireland, as in the rest of the United Kingdom, traffic drives on the left.

Ferries connect Belfast with Cairnryan in Scotland in around 2 hours 15 minutes and with Liverpool in around 8 hours. As things currently stand (November 2026), up to five ferries a day sail to Cairnryan, and there are daytime and overnight sailings to Liverpool every day. The centre is around 10 minutes by car from the ferry terminal.

Entering Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. If you are not travelling on a British or Irish passport, you will usually need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) or a visa. You apply for the ETA before your trip on the UK Government website, it costs £20 and is valid for stays of up to six months (as of November 2026). Anyone who lives in Ireland and enters from Ireland does not need an ETA. Anyone who does not live in Ireland needs the ETA or visa even when arriving via Dublin.

Parking

There is parking around the marina, managed by the Odyssey Trust and subject to charges. The nearest car park is on Sydenham Road, around 100 metres from the marina. Beneath Titanic Belfast there is an underground car park with 520 spaces, open around the clock and with a maximum vehicle height of 2.1 metres. For taller vehicles, further car parks are located on Queen’s Road.

Showers and sanitary facilities

The marina building, with showers, a kitchen and a laundry, is open around the clock.

Shopping for the trip

There is a Spar shop for the basics right at the marina. The nearest supermarkets are just under a kilometre away as the crow flies: a Tesco around 900 metres and a Lidl around 950 metres away, and a Centra around 1 kilometre. The M&S Foodhall is around 1.3 kilometres away. For a big shop by car, there is an Asda around 2.6 kilometres away and another M&S Foodhall around 2.8 kilometres away. The distances are as the crow flies, so the route on foot is longer. Fresh food and fish are also available on Fridays from 8 am to 2 pm at St George’s Market.

Doctor, pharmacy and emergency services

The nearest pharmacy, McKenzies Chemist, is around 1.1 kilometres from the marina, and Gordons Chemists is also around 1.1 kilometres away. The nearest doctors' surgeries are The Group Surgery, around 1 kilometre away, and Eastside Surgery, around 1.2 kilometres away. Wi-Fi in the marina building is free. Rubbish goes only in the bins on the main pontoon next to the access bridge, and nothing is to be left on the pontoons. Major repairs are not permitted in the marina, only minor repairs and small maintenance jobs while under way. The berthing fee must be displayed clearly on the boat so that staff can check it from the pontoon.

What is the sailing weather like on Belfast Lough?

In Northern Ireland the wind blows mainly from the south to north-west, most often from the south-west. When lows cross from the Atlantic, it usually starts out from the south or south-west and later veers to west or north-west. The strongest winds almost always come from these directions as well. It blows hardest from November to January, while in spring the wind more often comes from the north, north-east and east. The coasts of Antrim and Down are among the windiest parts of Northern Ireland.

In its coastal forecast, the British weather service Met Office lists winds of Beaufort 6 and above separately and issues a gale warning from Beaufort 8. The harbour authority publishes tide tables for Belfast. The tides matter most at the entrance to Strangford Lough, where the current runs very strongly.

Which sailing destinations are close to Belfast Harbour Marina?

From Belfast you can reach Carrickfergus and Bangor on Belfast Lough in day sails, and beyond them lie Strangford Lough, the Isle of Man, Scotland and the Irish east coast. Bangor's marina is the largest in Northern Ireland and has been run by the Ards and North Down Borough Council since April 2026.

Strangford Lough lies east of Belfast and is separated from the Irish Sea by the Ards Peninsula. The inlet is around 30 kilometres long, up to 8 kilometres wide and mostly shallow. It is linked to the Irish Sea by a channel around 8 kilometres long and 500 metres wide at its narrowest point, the Strangford Narrows. The tidal stream there runs at up to 8 knots, so you plan your passage according to the tide. The lough is a marine conservation area.

Isle of Man: The island has two marinas, in Douglas on the east coast and in Peel on the west coast, both for boats up to 12 metres, with a few berths up to 15 metres in Peel. Both lie in impounded harbour basins behind a lifting bridge or swing bridge respectively, and are accessible from about two and a half hours before to two and a half hours after high water. You cannot reserve, as berths are allocated on arrival. About an hour before entering, call the harbour on VHF channel 12.

Scotland and Ireland: On the other side of the North Channel lies the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. We present a harbour there in the profile of the Troon Marina . Heading south, you follow the Irish east coast down to Dublin; you can find out more in the profile of the Harbours of Dublin.

What can you do on a harbour day in Belfast?

You can reach the main sights on foot from Belfast Harbour Marina.

Titanic Belfast: The museum stands right next to the marina, beside the slipways, the Harland & Wolff drawing offices and the Hamilton Graving Dock, where the Titanic was designed, built and launched. Your ticket also covers the SS Nomadic, the last surviving ship of the White Star Line.

Maritime Mile: The waterfront path leads from Sailortown along the quays to the Titanic Quarter, on foot or by hire bike. A Belfast Bikes station is located at the SSE Arena.

St George’s Market: The market hall opposite the Waterfront Hall was built between 1890 and 1896. On Fridays from 8 am to 2 pm you will find fruit, vegetables, fish and bric-a-brac, on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm local food and crafts, and on Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm mainly crafts.

Belfast City Hall: The city hall in the centre opened in August 1906. An exhibition on the ground floor tells the story of the city, and the Titanic Memorial Garden is in the grounds.

For skippers: berthing and sea weather at Belfast Harbour Marina

On the way to Belfast Harbour Marina you pass through a harbour with ferry and cargo traffic. Belfast VTS, the harbour's traffic control centre, manages shipping there on VHF channel 12 and can be reached around the clock.

Registration and Berthing

You book visitor berths in the marina before arrival, by phone on +44 28 9055 3506 or via the form on the Belfast Harbour website. After berthing, check in using the QR code at the marina or with staff on +44 28 9055 3027. Belfast VTS gives no information on occupancy or free berths, as the control centre is responsible only for navigation. Once you are made fast, report to Belfast VTS on channel 12.

Rafting up is permitted only if both boats agree, and you still pay the full fee. You may live aboard only with the consent of the Marina Manager and, as a rule, for no more than five nights.

Harbour rules

The operating rules of Belfast Harbour apply throughout the harbour. Important for visitors:

In the harbour you proceed under engine with sails stowed and at no more than 6 knots.

The marina is in a residential area, so avoid making noise at night.

Children always wear a lifejacket on the pontoons, and everyone does in bad weather.

Pets must be kept on a lead within the harbour authority grounds.

Approaching through Belfast Lough

To reach the marina, follow the fairway through Belfast Lough and the Victoria Channel into the harbour. As long as there is enough depth, stay outside the fairway. Before you enter or cross the fairway, call Belfast VTS on channel 12 and follow their instructions. In the fairway, keep to the outer edge on the starboard side, do not impede commercial shipping and stop only if VTS instructs you to. Keep your distance from the marker beacons: safe water only begins 22 metres inside the line of beacons in the Victoria Channel and 17 metres inside it in the harbour. Call VTS again when you leave the fairway, and also before leaving the marina.

If you are arriving on your own boat from somewhere other than Great Britain or the Isle of Man, report your passage to Northern Ireland online to the British authorities and fly the yellow Q flag from the 12-nautical-mile limit. If you are coming from Ireland, you must report the passage but do not need to provide details of your crew and guests. If you are not coming from Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, everyone on board without a British or Irish passport needs entry permission from Border Force before going ashore.

Which marine weather forecast applies to Belfast?

For Belfast Lough, the Met Office inshore waters forecast applies, in the section "Lough Foyle to Carlingford Lough". It is issued four times a day, is valid for 24 hours each time and extends up to 12 nautical miles off the coast. You can read it on the Met Office website, and BBC Radio 4 also broadcasts it at around 00:48 UK time overnight.

For the open Irish Sea, the Shipping Forecast applies, which the Met Office also issues four times a day. Gale warnings are issued in addition as soon as they are released. At sea, you can also receive the forecasts via NAVTEX.

Sailing trips from Belfast on Törnfinder

You can find sailing trips from Belfast, in the Irish Sea and in all other sailing areas in the trip overview.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from the airport to Belfast Harbour Marina?

From George Best Belfast City Airport, the Airport Express 600 runs directly to Titanic Belfast right next to the marina, and by car it takes five to ten minutes.
