The Bahamas, especially the Exumas, are a natural paradise without equal. The underwater world, like an aquarium, invites endless snorkelling excursions. Fine white sandy beaches lapped by crystal-clear turquoise water entice you to linger, and on top of all that we are repeatedly surprised by natural spectacles that, strung together, seem staged like attractions in a theme park.
The island world of the Bahamas is a colourful mix of highlights above and below water for the eyes, the senses and the soul, which you can let drift here undisturbed.
Everything away from Nassau is pleasantly small and manageable, yet varied with regularly recurring infrastructure, a touch of extravagance and nonetheless authentic island life on the 'Public Islands'.

Our trip begins in Nassau, where the available infrastructure allows straightforward travel connections and good shopping facilities for provisioning.
From Nassau we set sail for the first time south-east through the shallow water to Highborne Cay, where after about 30 nautical miles we drop our anchor into Bahamian sand for the first time. We'll round off our first day here with snorkelling and swimming. The following morning, after breakfast, we sail on at a leisurely pace to Norman's Cay, where we explore the wreck of Pablo Escobar's aeroplane whilst snorkelling in shallow water. Next stop is Shroud Cay. This island is crisscrossed with channels, so that you can take the dinghy through the crystal-clear water of the channels all the way to the east side. At the mouth of these channels is 'The Washing Machine'. The water flowing in and out creates a large whirlpool in which, without moving, you can drift round and round in a continuous loop at speed.
From Shroud Cay we continue south-east to Compass Cay. In the north of the island you absolutely must visit Rachel's Bubble Bath – a natural pool near the east coast. In the southern lagoon there is a lovely marina which blends picturesquely into the landscape. From here you can explore the island's interior very well and observe – and, if you dare, stroke – the marina's house pets: nurse sharks on a shallow underwater platform.
We then continue on to Staniel Cay. Here there is a small airstrip, another marina, people and infrastructure.
On the outlying island of Big Major's Spot we first visit the famous swimming pigs of the Bahamas, and a little later we snorkel into the Thunderball Grotto off Staniel Cay. This is where the James Bond film of the same name was once filmed.
We follow the island chain further and further until, after several more stops, we reach Rudder Cay and turn back north-west. The island is now owned by the magician David Copperfield and, as befits a magician, he has placed a sculpture of a mermaid complete with piano on the seabed in the crystal-clear water.

On the way back to Nassau we visit the islands which we deliberately left out on the journey south-east, so as to have a few highlights left for the return trip. Among others Johnny Depp's Bell Cay, as well as one of the absolute highlights of this voyage – Warderick Wells Cay.

Let yourself be surprised – the Bahamas are a trip of superlatives!
