Cabin Charter on a Catamaran: Catamaran Sailing Trips with Skipper

A catamaran sails on two hulls. It sits almost level in the water, has plenty of space on deck and can get close to shallow bays. On a catamaran sailing trip you book a cabin and sail with a skipper and crew. You don't need a sailing licence for it.

What is different on a catamaran sailing trip?

Under sail, a catamaran hardly heels at all. That makes life on board comfortable: glasses stay put, you can move safely around the deck, and even at anchor the boat lies more calmly than a monohull.

  • Plenty of space: The cockpit and saloon are on the same level, and at the front a net is stretched between the hulls, where you can lie in the sun.
  • Cabins in the hulls: The cabins are separate, in the two hulls. On many cruising catamarans, each cabin has its own small bathroom.
  • Shallow draught: A catamaran often needs only a little over a metre of water depth and can therefore anchor closer to the beach.
  • Steady ride: Many people who quickly become seasick on a monohull cope better on a catamaran. In short, steep waves, however, a catamaran can pitch jerkily.
  • Lend a hand or relax: Depending on the trip and the provider, you either pitch in with the sailing or simply enjoy the ride. What is planned is stated in the trip description.

Trips are usually sailed with a skipper. They command the boat, plan the route and, if you wish, show you the ropes. If you would like to learn to skipper a catamaran yourself, you will find suitable offers under Skipper training.

Catamaran or monohull: which suits you?

The catamaran offers more space and comfort. The monohull sails closer to the wind, gives more of a sailing feel and is usually cheaper per person.

How these figures are calculated

The analysis covers all sailing trips published on Törnfinder with the boat type catamaran and a start date from today onwards; the figures are recalculated twice a day. Prices are the providers' figures per person; offers for a private yacht charter with skipper, which are priced per boat, are not included in the prices. “Usually” refers to the middle half of the offers; the cheapest and the most expensive quarters are left out. The starting harbour is the departure port named in the listing, and a round trip is a sailing trip with the same departure and destination harbour. The texts on this page are written and checked by the editorial team of toernfinder.de.

Where catamaran sailing trips take place

Of the Catamaran trips published here, around 30 % call at ports in Croatia and around 20 % at ports in Greece; others go to Martinique, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Thailand.

In Croatia and Greece many islands lie close together. The daily legs are short, and at midday there is time for an anchorage in a bay. In the Caribbean you sail from island to island with the trade winds in winter, often around Martinique and the Grenadines. In Thailand the Andaman Sea around Phuket is the destination from about November to April.

When catamaran sailing trips take place

In the Mediterranean most dates are in summer, in the Caribbean and Thailand in winter. That is why catamaran sailing trips are available all year round.

When the trips start

Most Catamaran trips start in July and August. Trips are available all year round.
