From Trapani to Malta

This week-long trip runs along Sicily's varied southern coast all the way to Malta. Between historic harbour towns, striking cliffsides and long sandy beaches, the island reveals a side far quieter than its well-known northern coast.

From Trapani the route follows the southern coastline. Before long, the first harbour towns invite you to stroll through narrow lanes and lively piazzas. In Sciacca, fishing boats, cafés and typical Sicilian life shape the scene. Further east, long sandy beaches alternate with rugged limestone cliffs. Off the famous Scala dei Turchi, white rocks gleam above the deep blue sea – one of Sicily's most striking coastal stretches.

Via Porto Empedocle, the trip eventually reaches Licata. The modern marina and historic old town form the starting point for the final leg to Malta. As the distance increases, Sicily slowly disappears over the horizon before the Maltese islands finally appear ahead.

The approach to Malta is among the finest in the Mediterranean. The mighty fortifications around Valletta rise directly from the sea and accompany the yacht all the way into the Grand Harbour or Msida Marina. After a week along the Sicilian coast, this impressive harbour entrance crowns the trip.
