First of all, the Mahana is an owner's boat as one would wish it to be; it lacks neither comfort nor safety features and you immediately feel warmly invited into Lutz's 'living room'. Everything is up to date and you feel very welcome and at home on the very spacious catamaran.
In the first week, Lutz and I sailed from Brest to Coruña across the Bay of Biscay in a three-watch system. Great consideration was given to sailing ability, wind and environmental conditions, and all important manoeuvres, questions and precautions were clarified together. Before departure and whilst waiting for the right wind, I have fond memories of the picturesque little harbours and bays in Brittany, where Lutz, Jens and I were able to get to know each other well and settle in.
After arriving in A Coruña, I spontaneously decided to continue for another week as far as Porto, so that another week of wonderfully beautiful sailing experiences along the northwest coast of Spain, the picturesque Rias there, a day ashore in Santiago de Compostela and Porto with a varied dinghy tour on the Douro awaited me as a lovely finale.

I can unreservedly recommend the Mahana and Lutz as skipper! This applies not only to his sailing expertise and the great boat, but also to his human interaction with constantly changing crews, and of course answering questions in advance and the really transparent financial handling. I particularly take my hat off to the latter, considering that Lutz's 'home office' does not always have internet and that in sailing operations more digital 'paperwork' arises than one can imagine.

Happy to do it again! Let's see how far the Mahana has got at the next opportunity.

Me and my friends spend a few days sailing around the Canary Islands. It was a great experience. Mahana is a very comfortable yacht, a pleasure to sail with. Lutz was really helpful teaching us the trick of sailing, and we were happy to help. We enjoyed every minute we spent on board, whether we were on 'watch', pulling ropes or just casually enjoyed a beer and relaxed on the sundeck. Kitchen is well equipped, we cooked amazing dishes, even used the bbq a couple of times. Lutz is a very thorough and good skipper. I can only recommend sailing with Lutz on Mahana.

My afternoon on the catamaran 'Mahana' was a very lovely sailing experience.
Here are some points that are particularly noteworthy:
The trip organisation and responsiveness to guests' wishes were remarkable. The skipper and his team were extremely attentive and flexible to ensure that everyone on board could enjoy the sailing experience according to their own preferences.
The safety briefing by the skipper was thorough and professional. Everyone on board was carefully informed about the safety measures and precautions, which gave a reassuring feeling.
The safety of the passengers was the top priority, and the crew of the 'Mahana' knew how to convey this concern in a friendly and professional manner.
The safety equipment on the 'Mahana' was impressive. The vessel was equipped with everything needed for a safe and pleasant sailing trip. The condition of the catamaran was also impeccable, which showed that the operator places great value on maintenance and care.
The equipment of the 'Mahana' was excellent overall. The spacious deck and comfortable interior offered enough space for all passengers to move freely and enjoy the trip. The order processing was smooth and professional. Questions were answered promptly, and the entire handling was extremely professional.
The skipper's team leadership was outstanding. He led his team with great skill and expertise, which contributed to a harmonious and safe sailing environment. His experience and commitment to the wellbeing of the crew and passengers were clearly evident and contributed significantly to the success of the sailing day.
Overall, the sailing trip on the catamaran 'Mahana' was an outstanding experience. The combination of tailored trip organisation, exemplary safety precautions, first-class equipment and professional team leadership made this sailing trip an unforgettable experience. I can hardly wait to get back on board and experience further sailing adventures on the 'Mahana'.

I discovered the Mahana's page and profile on Törnfinder in October 2023, read up on the topic of 'sailing trips off the Canaries' with interest, and then spontaneously decided to experience such a trip myself for the first time. For me, it was the first time I was able to actively experience such an 'adventure'.
The preparation was already very professional. I received a very useful equipment list in advance, which is very important for a previous non-sailor to be able to obtain all the necessary personal items and equipment. I also received the trip agreement with all necessary regulations in good time.
My 'adventure' then began in Las Galletas/Tenerife, where Lutz picked me up with his dinghy at the harbour late on Saturday afternoon. The welcome on board was very warm and the chemistry with skipper Lutz and 'skipper's wife' Jana was right from the start. I really had 14 absolutely fantastic days! Starting with the many manoeuvres when anchoring, weighing anchor, setting sails, taking in sails, marina entry and exit. All new territory for me, but clear briefings beforehand and concrete instructions during the manoeuvres made everything easier, and I very quickly had the feeling of being part of the crew. Moreover, as a water lover, I had the opportunity every day to swim, snorkel intensively in the Atlantic, either alone or with Lutz, or to explore Tenerife and La Gomera on joint excursions ashore. And all of this in a very relaxed atmosphere and without pressure. As a crew member, I also met many other interesting people on the water and ashore. First and foremost, a pastor couple from Mölln and a Swiss couple with a catamaran. We spent interesting hours with both over dinner and breakfast invitations. What I would also like to highlight was my great and comfortable cabin with its own bathroom and shower. Simply pure luxury for me. And not to forget the opportunity to try out cooking on board and to delight the crew with my own culinary ideas.
Overall, this trip was uniquely wonderful and interesting for me. I experienced and learnt a great deal that was new and sailing-specific, which has enriched my life. And I've become curious to join further sailing trips. I will return. Next time with my wife Kerstin.

I went sailing off Santa Cruz with the catamaran Helia 44" by Fountain Pajot, Mahana, and skipper Lutz. The boat is in top condition with current and well-maintained safety equipment, life jackets, life raft, emergency beacon, dinghy with outboard motor, outdoor seating, excellent running and standing rigging, sporty sailing characteristics for her 11 tonnes, and plenty of space for comfort.

The skipper welcomed everyone warmly, gave a clear safety briefing and discussed the day's schedule. The trip was always adapted to the needs of fellow travellers, and everyone could relax, steer, help or do nothing, as their heart desired.

Lutz is a calm, experienced skipper who takes his crew along well, knows his boat very well, gives clear instructions and at the same time gives everyone who wants to the opportunity to get involved. He always has the overall situation in view and attaches great importance to leading both people and equipment well. Clear communication during all manoeuvres goes without saying, whilst maintaining a warm and friendly tone.

Highly recommended for everyone who is new to boats, because the Mahana conveys a great sense of security, but also for those who can already sail and would like to take the helm and winches themselves.

We were out for a few days with Lutz and Jana on the Mahana from Tenerife. We came without sailing experience and felt well looked after and safe. Mahana is superbly equipped. We were allowed to get stuck in straight away and learnt a huge amount. Skipper Lutz explained everything to us and answered every one of our many questions. Jana looked after us superbly, she's a wonderful host.

Together we had fantastic sailing days and many lovely experiences on board and also on our joint excursions ashore. We thank you for the wonderful time and would love to come back.

I sailed with Lutz (skipper) from Lisbon via Madeira to Tenerife.
I can fully confirm the reviews that have been written so far. What I would particularly like to highlight is that every sailing manoeuvre was discussed intensively and Lutz placed an exceptional amount of trust in the crew.
Lutz is not just a sailor, he adapted to the crew whether it was shore excursions or fishing.

I became aware of Lutz and his Mahana through Facebook.
After a brief getting to know each other via video call, it was clear I would be part of the crew for two weeks and sail from Lisbon to Madeira.
The journey offered plenty of variety and was balm for the soul.
Lutz is the skipper everyone wishes for! There was a thorough safety briefing and a comprehensive tour of the Mahana.
Every locker could be opened, which immediately created the feel-good factor of a shared home. Live and let live… Our little crew of 4 people harmonised perfectly.
Cooking and eating together was celebrated each time and left nothing to be desired.
In the mornings we greeted the sunrise with yoga on deck and during the day we simply sat together laughing whilst playing cards.
There were wonderful conversations, through which the crew grew closely together.
We took turns with the night watches, with Lutz constantly on standby and clearly communicating that we could wake him at any time should we feel uncertain.
Possible situations at night and expectations were clearly discussed beforehand, which meant we could confidently master the 4 night passages, even with little sailing experience.
When there were questions about sailing, the characteristics of the Code Zero, the display functions, autopilot 😉 or the differences in sailing with a catamaran, Lutz enthusiastically shared his sailing skills.
There was a clear allocation for the manoeuvres and all were discussed beforehand. As a result, we very quickly became a well-coordinated team and Lutz could rely on anchoring, sail changes or similar running smoothly.
The shared adventures continued ashore. For our young-at-heart skipper, no mountain was too high.
Everyone could contribute ideas for the day and we were always in agreement. Whether a hiking tour, exploring the island by e-bike or discovering the culinary delights during leisurely town visits, we were able to experience everything together and had a really good time doing it.
Besides the wonderful days where we swam in secluded bays, there were of course also brief moments when we carried out a few repairs on board or wielded the mop, and here too we were a team, a crew. I think I speak for everyone when I say that even during the few tasks we laughed together a great deal.
Time flew by, I will of course continue to follow Lutz and his Mahana's journey.
Anyone considering going sailing should secure a trip on the Mahana, because the journey stays in your heart.

I sailed with Skipper Lutz on his catamaran 'Mahana' in October 2023 from Lisbon to the Madeiran islands. It was wonderful. From Lisbon we sailed to the island of Porto Santo as our first destination. We caught a tuna. Andreas, our cook, prepared a marvellous fish menu from it. It's unique that you can prepare this without any problems on a catamaran even whilst sailing. Then Madeira, the bays of Enseada da Abra and Machico. Lying at anchor beneath the starry sky on the catamaran is wonderful. We were greeted by the sunrise at a richly laid breakfast table. We carried out the joint maintenance work as a team with lots of laughter and good music, against the background sound of the electric drill. Then we set off on jointly planned hikes to Pico Ruivo with its 1,862 m and along the levadas.
We strolled through the shady avenues of the island capital Funchal. A cool piña colada in a fresh pineapple quenched our thirst
Evening tours in the onboard kayak along the coastline rounded off the day. A glass of wine at sunset and then off to the comfortable bunks.

The catamaran 'Mahana' is in very good condition with state-of-the-art equipment. The safety equipment is more than complete. Skipper Lutz conducted a detailed safety briefing. During the sailing, the skipper actively passed on his extensive knowledge to the crew.
The entire team was absolutely outstanding. I would happily sail again at any time with Lutz and his 'Mahana' on the legs of his circumnavigation.

We had a perfect weekend trip on Mahana together with Lutz and Jana. We felt superbly looked after from the very first moment and were delighted with both hosts and the catamaran. All the preparation and trip planning was very straightforward yet still professional.

Mahana is superbly equipped in every respect. In terms of sailing, cuisine and comfort, nothing is left to be desired here. Although we had relatively little wind, sailing is still great fun in light winds thanks to the 155 m² wing sail! We would happily come back at any time and wish them both all the very best with their plan to sail around the world.

I had the unique opportunity to revive childhood memories and sail on a catamaran in the Mediterranean for the first time. By chance I met Skipper Lutz in Leipzig. We have kept in close contact ever since. As a child I was often drawn with my grandparents in their Lotos motor boat to the "Große Flake" and to other parts of the southern Mecklenburg Lake District. During the Corona pandemic an individual holiday was almost unthinkable. Lutz offered me the chance in summer 2022 to sail around Sicily with him. About Skipper Lutz you must know that he is reliable beyond measure – you can always depend on his word! He is loyal and honest. After the travel arrangements were settled and my holiday was due, I had the good fortune to embark on a new adventure in my life. My employer gave me time off, the flight tickets were booked and I only had to arrive in Syracuse. There Lutz met me with his motorised dinghy. We travelled from the harbour basin to the catamaran "Mahana" anchored in the bay. Even that was all new and somehow unimaginable for me. In a dinghy on the open sea. A "floating house" that gave us the opportunity to discover new lagoons, bays and coasts. The next few days were indescribably beautiful. We explored the land always from the water. One could only imagine how Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama or James Cook felt when they set foot on untouched terrain. In doing so we immersed ourselves in the everyday life of the "natives". We anchored off the coast, launched the dinghy and went ashore to take part in spontaneous street festivals such as probably only still exist in Sicily. Unfortunately our trip ended in Licata – a "hidden champion" in the Mediterranean region! I am always delighted to stay in contact with Lutz and try to discover further adventures with him! I wish him from my heart all the best on his voyage and always a hand's breadth of water under the keel!

On the first weekend of June 2023 my children (13, 8) and I were privileged to be guests on Mahana. Finding a date and making organisational arrangements with Skipper Lutz were handled together via telephone calls or straightforwardly and smoothly via WhatsApp and email. After our arrival at the marina we were warmly greeted with a small trolley which brought our luggage comfortably to the catamaran. After "arriving on board" (following a journey of several hours) and our first "familiarisation" with the new surroundings we were treated to a delicious dinner. Afterwards we forged the plan for the next few days. All our wishes were taken into account! The next day we started well rested into the adventure. After a well-balanced breakfast that left nothing to be desired, it was soon time to "cast off!". One could not imagine better integration on board. For the curious, whether young or old, there was much to discover and new things to learn. Lutz involved us in daily life on board in a demanding and benevolent – also beneficial! – way. The provisioning on board offered at all times whatever the heart desired. A sailing trip is always an action-packed adventure – my children too have now been seized by the fever and longing for the sea. After a wonderful day on the Baltic Sea with a stopover in Laboe, all our expectations were exceeded. After the mooring manoeuvre in the harbour we were once again deliciously treated to dinner. The short time that remained to us at the weekend we enjoyed to the full. We hope soon to be guests on Mahana again! We wish Lutz and Jana from our hearts always a hand's breadth of water under the keel!

I had an exciting time on board with Lutz and the crew. First of all, I must say that the boat is superbly equipped. Life is very comfortable on Mahana. There is sufficient space and living area available. Moreover, Lutz is excellently equipped with safety equipment, which gives you as a crew member a secure feeling. A briefing supported the whole thing.
In everyday sailing life — it was my first time for a long period with unfamiliar crew members on board — I was brilliantly integrated, was able to learn a great deal from the experience and was accordingly also given responsibility later on. After a short time I was able to execute manoeuvres in teamwork and carry out various instructions.
I hope to be on board Mahana again some day and wish you, Lutz, a lovely and safe time on your circumnavigation!
