Wonderful sailing days in the Baltic Sea

We were able to sail with the owner Frank from Wolgast to Gustavberg — 2 weeks of good sailing weather, good company and interesting conversations. Frank is in it heart and soul and really knows the sailing area well. As a skipper he is exemplary — he involves all crew members, each according to their abilities, and is respectful and clear in his instructions. The safety briefing in particular was exemplary — I have never experienced anything like it in this form. The ketch Grani is a wonderful yacht — a lovingly maintained mature lady with charm. I sailed in the Baltic Sea for the first time and will certainly come back — not least thanks to the positive experience the first time. We were really able to learn a lot from Frank — always on equal footing and respectful. We'll be back!

Sailing trip from Turku to Stockholm

This was my second time as crew on a sailing trip with Oceanspirit. This time we sailed from Turku to Stockholm with Frank, the owner of Oceanspirit, as skipper.
The yacht, a Nauticat 43 called Grani, is beautiful and has great charm! The saloon with its many windows is very cosy and particularly inviting in cool temperatures or rain.
Frank knows the sailing area very well and he helped us discover lovely little harbours and peaceful bays. We explored small islands, went swimming, sat in a picturesque café, visited a remote sauna and counted shooting stars.
With good wind conditions we got our money's worth sailing-wise too. Frank is an experienced, forward-thinking skipper. He's good at involving individual crew members.
I thoroughly enjoyed the week and there will definitely be a next time.
Manuela

Turku–Stockholm

We chose Ocean Spirit as we'd already had very good experiences 4 years ago.
The owner and skipper Frank welcomed us personally on his own yacht, a Nauticat 43. The boat is beautiful and very stylishly fitted out.
Frank knows the sailing area very well and we were able to discover dreamlike little harbours and bays.
Despite some strong winds, Frank gave us a sense of security at all times.
There were four of us sailing without a great deal of sailing experience. But by the end of the week we'd learnt a lot.
It was an exciting week, also with good conversations and convivial gatherings.
Many heartfelt thanks, we'd love to come again!
Fair winds, Renate

Åland 26

Just like in the Stockholm Archipelago in 2022, this trip Turku–Åland–Stockholm was once again a fantastic experience. With Frank, the owner of the luxurious two-master, as skipper. He knows this sailing area extremely well. Very clear and confident instructions for us less experienced sailors. And also convivial evenings in the harbours and bays we visited. I'm already looking forward to the next time. Sepp

On the Grani through the Stockholm archipelago

Hello, dear Frank,

as beginner sailors, we spent a wonderful week under your competent guidance in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago. Aboard the Grani, we felt completely safe and at ease throughout. She may be a somewhat older lady (just like us), but thanks to her design she's an absolutely safe and good-natured boat in any weather, making her perfectly suited for us beginners. What's more, she's charmingly and cosily furnished. There was always a harmonious atmosphere on board, which you played a big part in creating. Every day you went through the sailing plan with us, which gave especially the complete newcomers to sailing a great deal of confidence. Everyone was assigned tasks on board according to their abilities, so our crew was able to prove itself as a good team. Towards evening we would always moor in a dreamy bay, look back on the day and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.
But cooking together, playing cards in the evening, good conversations, the lovely weather, the sailing wind and so much more make this week an unforgettable experience for us, one we would gladly repeat.

Claudia and Jörg

With Oceanspirit in the southern Stockholm archipelago

With Frank as skipper, we enjoyed a wonderful week in the archipelago outside Stockholm. Aboard his Nauticat 43 and under his guidance, we not only felt completely at ease but also always safe. Thanks to his support, we grew into a well-functioning group in that short time and were able to learn and try things out individually. Frank is very experienced, careful and knows the archipelago extremely well. His deep-rooted love for this special area is clearly evident.
The sailing yacht, a two-master, is really well equipped and also spacious. There were six of us on board altogether and it never felt cramped.
Every day, Frank suggested a new course to a new destination and often involved us in the planning. Most of the time he chose a natural harbour in the lee of the wind, so that we could enjoy a peaceful night's sleep.
Sailing and living on a boat in the archipelago is a wonderful nature experience that we can only recommend to everyone. Especially with Oceanspirit.

Provider's response

Hej Katharina, hello Ulf,

thank you very much for your positive review. It was also a pleasure for me to have been out and about with you in the Stockholm archipelago. I particularly remember the many Swedish words for the word 'island'. It was also an honour for me to be able to show you, Ulf, as a Swede, the Stockholm archipelago, even though you knew it very well from your youth. I was able to learn a great deal from you. I wish you much joy on the water in the future too, whenever you set sail again with your own boat.

Best regards
Frank Mietzsch

From Gustavsberg (Stockholm) to Kröslin

Frank told me last year about his proud purchase of the 43 ft Nauticat “Grani “. He explained that he runs weekly trips from his base at Gustavsberg through the Swedish islands every Summer. Would I like to join one of these trips to share his enthusiasm for sailing, Sweden, its islands, and the Baltic sea.
I was somewhat nervous at joining a trip for several days on the high seas having only had limited sailing experience over 40 years ago, given that the fellow travellers would probably be at least semi -competent sailors and that we might encounter high waves. Nevertheless, I was persuaded to sign up for the final sail of the season, when the boat returns to Germany for the winter travelling via Kalmar to Kröslin in Germany. As a special favour, Frank had also promised that if I wasn’t happy, I could leave the boat in Kalmar.
As it turned out it was a fantastic two weeks, and I can only say I am looking forward to joining Frank again sometime on his beloved “Grani “. Frank is an experienced skipper who passed on his knowledge of steering in and out of narrow harbours, using the wind to best effect despite it often blowing too much, not enough or in the wrong direction. My fellow travellers were good company and of course sailing was a main topic. Everyone had a chance to help steer, adjust sails, and tie the boat up on landing. Breakfasts were on board in harbour and dinners were prepared and enjoyed on “Grani” or we visited excellent Scandinavian restaurants. Although German was the on- board language both Frank and fellow passengers spoke and understood English.
I can only recommend joining Frank on his beloved “Grani“ for time away from what’s happening elsewhere in the world. And if you must stay connected the boat is equipped with good wi-fi

He knows his stuff ...

Hello everyone,
that was my first thought when this tool asked me for a headline.
"He knows his stuff".
I sailed with Frank and his Grani from Turku to Stockholm and it was pure holiday.
I wanted two things from this trip: to get to know the area a bit, and to learn how to approach the rocks.
And what can I say, I got exactly what I was hoping for. Frank is a calm skipper who knows what he's doing and how to do it. The Grani is certainly not a modern racing yacht, but rather a cosy boat of an older era – and that's exactly what gives it its charm.
I felt completely at ease the whole time and picked up quite a bit of knowledge that I had simply been missing.

Thank you Frank and thank you Grani for a wonderful time.

With Oceanspirit from Kalmar to Stockholm

For anyone still undecided, I'd like to share my experience with Oceanspririt, namely Frank and his Nauticat Grani, which have their second home in the Stockholm archipelago throughout the season.

Frank is an experienced skipper and a genuinely kind-hearted person. He happily shares his experience at sea and his knowledge of the sailing area he accompanies you through. He is obliging and helpful, and you can feel his passion for sailing, the Baltic Sea and his boat, the Grani.

The Grani was one of the reasons I decided to spend my first long sailing trip aboard her. At 43 feet in length and 15 tonnes in weight, she is a spacious and solid sailing yacht. She gives you a sense of security at sea, even in rough conditions, as well as calm and reassurance at anchor.
She offers the crew plenty of space on the journey; her large deck saloon, with its big windows all around, is a bright yet cosy place to cook, eat, navigate, or simply enjoy a crossing even in bad weather. There are ample bunks, offering plenty of space and sufficient privacy even with a larger crew.

I can only encourage every sailing enthusiast to give this experience a try.
I would gladly go on another trip with Frank and the Grani under Oceanspirit any time the opportunity arises. Maybe we'll meet on board sometime!
