A round trip from Martinique to the Grenadines and back again – with just one airport for arrival and departure. Via St. Lucia with the Pitons and St. Vincent we sail into the Grenadines: Bequia, Mustique, the Tobago Cays, Union Island and the tiny sand island of Mopion. Turquoise water over pale sand, reefs for snorkelling and anchorages that you only find here.

The return is on the trade wind northwards to Martinique. The round trip with a single point of connection is one of the most popular formats of our Caribbean season – the journey is straightforward, and on one trip you experience two very different faces of the Lesser Antilles: the green volcanic islands of the Windwards and the flat reef islands of the Grenadines.

Highlights

We decide our stops in harbours and anchorages together. We're a crew that plans the route according to preferences, wind and weather.

Martinique, Le Marin — home port: start and finish via the same airport

Marigot Bay, St. Lucia — hidden palm bay behind a narrow entrance

The Pitons — the two volcanic cones of St. Lucia, UNESCO World Heritage

Cumberland Bay, St. Vincent — deep bay where the rainforest reaches down to the water

Bequia, Port Elizabeth — wide Admiralty Bay and old boat-building tradition

Basil's Bar, Mustique — legendary beach bar on the most exclusive island in the Grenadines

Tobago Cays & Mayreau — reef atoll in the national park, snorkelling with sea turtles

Union Island — colourful island harbour and gateway to the southern Grenadines

Mopion — tiny sand island with a single sunshade made of palm fronds

Sailing area

The Lesser Antilles stretch from the Virgin Islands to the coast of Venezuela. Our trip leads through the Windward Islands from Martinique via St Lucia and St Vincent to the Grenadines — and back the same way. The islands lie in the trade wind belt, tropical to subtropical: air temperature 25–29 °C year-round, water a constant 26–28 °C. The north-east trade winds blow steadily at 4–6 Bft — sailing pleasure is guaranteed. The best and driest time to travel is between November and April. The people are friendly and welcoming, the Caribbean way of life — reggae, rum and good times — is everywhere.

Trip

A round trip with just one airport: we start and finish in Le Marin on Martinique — departure and arrival run through the same airport, which makes planning simple and flights often cheaper. This combination of a round course and a single hub is one of the most popular trip formats in our Caribbean season.

After boarding, provisioning and safety briefing in Le Marin, we set course southwards. First stop is St Lucia: Marigot Bay, a narrow, palm-fringed bay that only reveals itself when you're almost inside — and the Pitons, the twin volcanic cones that rise straight out of the sea as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Further south we reach St Vincent and anchor in Cumberland Bay, where the rainforest reaches right down to the water. Then the Grenadines begin: Bequia with Port Elizabeth and the wide Admiralty Bay, Mustique with Basil's Bar right on the beach — and finally the heart of the voyage, the Tobago Cays. Behind the Horseshoe Reef we lie at anchor in the national park, snorkel with sea turtles and have Mayreau close by.

Via Union Island we head to Mopion, a tiny sandbank with a single sunshade made of palm fronds — there's no more island than that. Then we turn and sail back north on the trade winds to Martinique.

Around 210 nautical miles: southwards mainly beam reach and broad reach courses, on the return northwards close-hauled and beam reach courses — a trip on which you sail all points of sail. Sailing experience is welcome but not a prerequisite. Language on board is German and English.

For anyone collecting miles for their next sailing licence: as we sail down the Windward Islands to the Grenadines and back on this trip, a good number of nautical miles go into the logbook. We will of course issue you with an official mile confirmation at the end of the voyage.

Our GALINI is travelling the world – and you can be part of it! With us you are not an anonymous guest on a standard route, but part of a real crew discovering new horizons together. We are not a classic charter company running the same tour every week. Instead we sail together, experience real boatlife and embrace the adventure the sea has in store for us.

Step aboard a superbly equipped, lovingly maintained boat and enjoy what makes us special: with us nothing comes off the peg. Every sailing trip is unique – sometimes spontaneous, sometimes planned, always full of surprises. Unplanned experiences are just as much a part of it as relaxed days on deck.

Do you want to do more than just sail along? We look after the boat's systems together, and you can pitch in yourself if you'd like. You can also turn it from a holiday sailing trip into a real experience on a long-distance yacht and become part of life at sea.

Our sailing trips combine holiday, experience, mindfulness and real boatlife. Become part of our crew and experience a special time on GALINI – authentic, communal and full of a spirit of adventure.

Wind & climate

The north-east trade winds blow in the Windward Islands and the Grenadines at 4–6 Bft and are the constant engine of this trip. Water temperature around 27 °C, air temperature 28–29 °C. March still lies in the dry and reliable sailing season; short showers usually pass as quickly as they arrive. Between the islands there's an open Atlantic swell — on passages we sail briskly, in the bays we lie calm.

The yacht

Our beautiful GALINI is a very fast, large and comfortable yacht. She was in the Caribbean over the winter and is crossing the Atlantic in April/May.

She is a modern Hanse 575 with 4 double cabins and a skipper's cabin. Each cabin has its own head with electric toilet. Wi-Fi via Starlink (optional), multimedia, generator 220 V / 7 KW (230 V in all cabins), washing machine, air fryer and coffee machine. She has large solar panels, radar, AIS, a watermaker, hydraulic bathing platform and a dinghy with outboard motor. A comprehensive array of safety and navigation equipment and much more besides – in short, everything you need to be self-sufficient on the go without needing to call at a provisioning harbour. A yacht that meets the highest standards for safety, design and comfort.

The sailing characteristics are outstanding too! The Hanse was designed by Volvo Ocean racers and is the fastest yacht in her class. Sailing pleasure guaranteed!

Marine Infinite

We want to make sailing more sustainable and environmentally friendly. On GALINI we test different products that give you a great sailing experience whilst placing less strain on the environment. At the same time she is on a voyage to explore the world. Her base is on Poros, Greece. Usually, though, she is away on long voyages. Our small team of skippers looks forward to sharing a real sailing experience with you!
