two-week mile building to Oslo – long days and short nights in Viking country

From Flensburg our route takes us through the Little Belt out onto the open waters of the Kattegat. We follow the Jutland coast northwards, past Samsø and all the other interesting harbours and islands, trying to reach Skagen as quickly as possible. There, after a rest day, we prepare for the crossing of the Skagerrak. Wind permitting, the approach to the Oslo Fjord and the Tristeinen lighthouse should come into view after a day's sailing.

Now we head into the fjord, which narrows steadily, and at Drøbak reaches perhaps its most beautiful and spectacular section. Here the big Oslo ferries wind their way impressively close through the fairway, close enough to touch. After another day's sailing, the silhouette of Oslo appears before us with its landmarks, the City Hall and the Holmenkollen ski jump towering above the city.

We are in Oslo at midsummer and will experience that on this daylight-filled night everyone who has a boat will be out on the water. With a bit of luck we follow the locals out into the fjord and celebrate Sankt Hansaften with them, as they call this day.

The trip is conducted on a modern GRP sailing yacht, where a bunk is available for each crew member. Each participant receives a mileage certificate on request at the end of the trip.
