Pure Atlantic coast – With the Roald Amundsen from Vigo to Lisbon
Friday, 27 November – Tuesday, 8 December 2026

Reduced: €1075 | Adults: €1545

Six days along the Portuguese Atlantic coast. Deep Atlantic blue, long swells, fresh westerly winds – a compact trip with a true Atlantic feel.

There are sailing areas that capture you instantly. The Portuguese Atlantic coast is one of them. We leave the harbour of Vigo, put the Rías of Galicia behind us and head south. Ahead lie some of the finest hundred nautical miles in Europe: a coast that is both rugged and welcoming, with wide sandy beaches, small fishing villages and a sea that shows its full range here.

The Atlantic in its purest form

The water grows deeper, bluer, clearer. The swell grows longer. Anyone who has sailed the Atlantic before knows this particular motion – a ship like the Roald lies wonderfully stable in it and develops under sail exactly the calm, powerful pace for which she was built. In November the chances are good for strong but perfectly sailable westerlies, clear air and sunsets that only the open Atlantic can offer.

Along the Portuguese coast

Past Porto, with its famous mouth of the Douro, onwards southwards, along the endless sandy beaches of the Beira Litoral. We pass Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, and finally set course for the mouth of the Tagus. Lisbon lies within reach.

Lisbon – Arrival in the city of seafarers
Lisbon receives us from the water, as befits a seafaring city: we head up the Tagus, past the Torre de Belém and the Monument to the Discoveries, under the 25 April Bridge, whilst the city spreads before us on its hills. Lisbon is lively, colourful and full of history: winding lanes in the Alfama, yellow trams struggling up the hills, viewpoints over red rooftops and in the evening Fado, the melancholic song that tells of departure and longing for the sea. Add to that fresh fish, Pastéis de Nata and a city that never quite comes to rest. Anyone with time can follow in the footsteps of the explorers in Belém, take the train to fairytale Sintra or enjoy the Atlantic from land at the Cascais coast.

Sail training under westerlies

On this trip we sail throughout in a watch system. In the three-watch system you are part of the crew – with everything that entails: setting and furling sails, taking the helm, lookout, navigation, night watches under the clear Atlantic sky. An experienced permanent crew will teach you what you need. Previous experience is welcome but not essential – curiosity and a desire for life on board are enough.

What to expect

A compact, intensive Atlantic voyage. Six days under sail on one of the finest coastal stretches in Europe. Deep blue, long swells, fresh westerlies. An arrival harbour smelling of grilled fish and salt. And the feeling of having truly sailed a piece of the Atlantic.

Come aboard. Feel the swell. Experience Portugal from the water.
