Let yourself be carried by current and wind and enjoy the fascinating landscape as you can only experience it from a ship.

In the evening workshops we can discuss how whisky tastes, what you taste, why one whisky is different from another even though the distance from one distillery to another is only a few kilometres, and much more.

There is ample opportunity to share the aromas of the whiskies with one another.

After departure from Oban on Saturday 22nd June 2024, the robust three-masted barque Thalassa will bring us to Troon in seven days.

Accompanied by the whisky expert on board, we will visit distilleries along the way.

Besides the Scottish distilleries, we will also make a detour to Bushmills in Northern Ireland.

Although it is English territory, we refer to this whiskey as Irish whiskey.
Sailing to Gle Scotia aboard the Thalassa

Just as France has classified its wines by region, Scotland has a regional classification for its whiskies.

On this voyage we will visit four of the six regions: Highlands, Islands, Islay and Campbeltown.

This voyage is the perfect opportunity to learn about the differences between the various whiskies and their regional and international characteristics.

In the evening workshops we can discuss how whisky tastes, what you taste, why one whisky is different from another even though the distance from one distillery to another is only a few kilometres, and much more.

There is ample opportunity to share the aromas of the whiskies with one another.

Along the way we encounter distilleries dating back to the late 17th century and others that are only a few years old.

What they all have in common is that they produce whisky entirely by hand and according to regional traditions.

Depending on weather and sailing conditions, we may visit the following distilleries along the way: Oban (before departure), Ardnamurchan, Tobermory, Jura, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Ardnahoe, Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Bushmills, Glen Scotia, Sprinkbank and Glengyle.

For Laphroaig lovers with a registered plot, this voyage is the perfect opportunity to raise the flag and collect your dram.

Instead of a distillery, you can of course also enjoy the unique landscape of the Scottish islands.

Walks are offered near every mooring point.

Going ashore with the tender

The region is perfect for a short excursion or a miles-long hike. Our guests should not miss the impressive scenery of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.

But there are also lovely circular walks through local nature reserves around Tobermory and on Islay.

Nautical life can be experienced in the various harbour towns such as Port Ellen, Tobermory and Campbeltown. Oban, Campbeltown and Tobermory also offer a wide choice of museums, galleries, shops and local attractions.

Our whisky/Scotland guide Bob Wenting will be happy to show you the way.
