On this early summer expedition trip we will cover around 200 nautical miles in a week – after all, the Eye of the Wind was built to sail long distances. Enjoy the fabulous archipelago landscape off the Norwegian coast and the vastness of the North Sea! On this voyage you will experience coastal seafaring as well as uninterrupted sailing by day and by night – a very special, close-to-nature experience. Our destination is the port of Lerwick on Shetland, the northernmost British island.

In the port of Bergen our crew will welcome you aboard. Embarkation is at 7 p.m. At the subsequent communal dinner in the comfortable saloon you will quickly find your feet on the Eye of the Wind's deck planks, feel at home from the very start and soon get to know your fellow travellers.

After a safety and sailing briefing by the friendly crew you may take an active part in the ship's operations yourself. Standing at the helm yourself and keeping a tall ship on the right course using only the power of the wind is – especially at night beneath the starry sky – a very special holiday experience. Active participation on deck is always voluntary and done with great enjoyment; our crew explains every step. Of course you can also simply relax and watch the sail manoeuvres and the traditional seamanship practised daily.

Here we discover a unique sailing area that presents itself like a varied landscape park of water surfaces, rocks and vegetation. Sailing by day and by night

During the passage across to the Shetlands the North Sea unfolds its rugged charm and sends a fresh breeze through the rigging. You will get to know the Eye of the Wind as a seaworthy ship proven in all weathers. The swell and the fresh sea air are known to make one hungry – our excellent galley will surprise you every day with new creations from the galley cookbook. In between, make yourself comfortable below decks in the comfortable saloon with a cup of tea or coffee and browse through a book from the ship's library.
