My favourite leg, honest, hard

This leg is another classic.
From the Azores back to mainland Europe. Demanding, varied and for many one of the finest offshore trips in the North Atlantic. For Jan it's one of his favourite trips.

We start in Ponta Delgada on São Miguel. The green islands of the Azores fall behind us, ahead lies the open Atlantic. The course leads east and south, into waters that demand attention whilst giving much back.

Sailing is part of every day.
Watches, holding course, observing weather, making decisions. The wind doesn't always come from one direction, the sea isn't always the same. That's precisely what this trip is about. It challenges without overwhelming, and shows how varied ocean sailing can be.

June offers good conditions for this.
The days are long, the nights short. Weather windows can be used to advantage; high-pressure systems and trailing fronts shape the picture. It is a time when careful planning, patient sailing and good timing pay off.

Jan knows this route well. His experience flows into life on board, calm and clear. Decisions are explained, connections made visible. Anyone who wishes can get actively involved and understands more with every mile how offshore sailing works.

After days at sea, the Portuguese coast appears. Landfall in Faro feels effortless yet special. Arrival after a passage that exists not only on the chart.
