This leg stays close to the coast.
From the Algarve along southern Portugal and Spain to Gibraltar. Cities, river, open water and time in between.

We start in Faro and follow the coast eastwards. The Atlantic is present but not overwhelming. Sailing alternates with arriving. Harbours, anchorages, shore visits. The rhythm is calmer, but not arbitrary.

A special section is the detour into the Rio Guadiana. We leave the open sea and head upriver. The landscape changes, it becomes quieter. A contrast to the Atlantic that stays with you.

Cadiz is one of the defining places of this voyage. A city that lives directly on the water. Time ashore is as much part of it as sailing there. Conversations, walks, history. Afterwards we continue eastwards, back onto the sea.

Sailing is part of the day.
Not in the foreground, but present. Reading the weather, setting sails, making decisions. Anyone who wishes is involved. Everything happens in everyday life, without a programme.

Gibraltar marks the end of this leg. The Rock, the Strait of Gibraltar, the meeting of Atlantic and Mediterranean. A place that is a transition.
