With a maximum of four participants (plus skipper) we sail with a small crew. Unlike large crews, where you hardly "get a turn", with us everyone is repeatedly challenged in all manoeuvres, in different roles. All manoeuvres and, of course, every training day are reflected upon together. Naturally, (electronic) navigation and a night passage are part of the SKS practical training. Manoeuvre training takes place exactly where the examination will later be held. Thoroughly prepared, the crew goes into the examination motivated and well practised. The SKS examination, conducted by the DSV examination board Kiel, takes place on Friday morning at the end of the practical week.

Recognised by SKS examiners for the quality of training, 138 out of 139 sailors aboard the "Kalami Star" have now passed their SKS examination, including three resits. With the usual failure rate of 13%, the 2.8% aboard the "Kalami Star" is certainly an outstanding result. Please spread the word!

The calm, competent skipper, experienced as a professional seaman across all seven seas, is the specialist for sailing trips in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. This delights absolute beginners, crews in practical SKS training and, by now, the over-50 generation as well.

One more thing: the "Kalami Star" is recognised by the See-Berufsgenossenschaft (now BG Verkehr) and the BSH (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie) as a training vessel. There is no higher safety standard for yachts. Charter yachts are not subject to these high standards – you should check this before signing on with XYZ.
