From Madeira to the Azores: On this trip we leave the coast of Madeira behind us and set course for Ponta Delgada. Around 550 nautical miles on the open Atlantic and a multi-day non-stop passage make this voyage a genuine ocean sailing trip.

On board we sail in a watch system and helm the yacht round the clock – including at night. All crew members are involved in navigation, weather observation, sail handling and the other tasks of daily life on board. Far from the coast, wind, weather and the rhythm of the watches determine our daily routine.

The trip is aimed at sailors who already have some initial experience and wish to develop their knowledge of ocean sailing. It is equally suitable for mile builders and anyone who wants to experience what it means to spend several days on the open Atlantic. Team spirit, reliability and willingness to participate actively in life on board are particularly important.

In March we must reckon with changeable weather conditions on the route between Madeira and the Azores. Calmer sections are just as possible as strong winds, Atlantic swell and passing low-pressure systems. The exact trip planning is therefore based on current weather developments. With a bit of luck we may encounter dolphins or whales along the way.

We sail on a 43-foot Beneteau Oceanis. The yacht has three double cabins and one cabin with a bunk bed. This provides ample space and comfort for the time at sea.
