— FROM ANTIGUA VIA THE AZORES TO CORNWALL —

The voyage begins on Antigua, a tropical island in the Caribbean. After boarding you get to know the ship, the crew and your fellow travellers. As soon as the Blue Clipper leaves harbour behind, the great adventure begins: the ocean crossing towards Europe.

The first major leg leads across the Atlantic to the Azores. After weeks at sea, Faial appears on the horizon – a green island in the middle of the ocean and a special moment of any Atlantic voyage.

A stopover of several days is planned on Faial. There you can feel solid ground beneath your feet again, stroll through Horta, try local dishes and experience the special atmosphere of a meeting point for ocean sailors.

After that, the second part of the voyage begins. The Blue Clipper sets sail once more and sets course for Penzance in Cornwall. The coast of England forms the impressive finale to this long voyage under sail.

— CABIN CHARTER ACROSS THE ATLANTIC —

During this Atlantic crossing you are not simply a passenger. You become part of life on board and can actively help with the daily tasks on a traditionally rigged tall ship.

For example, you help with setting and trimming the sails, take the helm, gain insights into navigation and chart reading, lend a hand in the galley or assist with simple maintenance work. Everyone contributes as much as they would like and are able to.

The Blue Clipper sails day and night. This gives life on board its very own rhythm. If you wish, you can join the watch system. You never stand watch alone and are accompanied by the professional crew.

Taking part in the watches is not compulsory. However, we expressly recommend it, because it is an important part of the experience on board. It is during the watches in particular that you feel especially intensely what it means to sail a large sailing ship across the ocean together.

An Atlantic crossing cannot be compared with a short sailing trip along the coast. Days and nights merge into one another, land disappears from view and the horizon becomes a constant companion.

Sometimes the sea is calm and the ship glides through the water almost effortlessly. On other days, wind, waves and changing weather demand attention, adaptability and teamwork.

The crew work with weather charts, radar, navigation instruments and a wealth of experience at sea. Along the way you have the opportunity to learn more about ocean sailing, seamanship, safety and dealing with wind and weather.

After the first major part of the crossing, the Azores are a special highlight. After a long time at sea, Faial feels like a green oasis in the middle of the Atlantic.

During the stopover you have time to recover, discover the island and enjoy the atmosphere ashore. Perhaps you stroll through Horta, visit a café or restaurant, explore the surroundings or simply let the impressions of the first Atlantic leg settle.

The stopover gives the voyage a pleasing rhythm: first the great sailing out from the Caribbean, then a break in the middle of the Atlantic and then the second leg towards England.

— LIFE ON BOARD THE BLUE CLIPPER —

On board, a little world of its own soon develops. The alternation of watches, eating, sleeping, sailing and resting determines the days. You get to know your fellow travellers well, because you work together, eat, stand watch and share special moments at sea.

There is free time as well. Between watches you can read, write, gaze at the starry sky, play a game or simply sit on deck and watch the ocean go by.

Shared meals are important anchor points in the daily routine. Catering is full board and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Soft drinks and hot beverages are also included.

On a long ocean voyage in particular, simple things become especially valuable: a good conversation, a quiet moment on deck, a warm meal after your watch or the first sight of land after many days at sea.

— PRACTICAL TRAVEL INFORMATION —

Antigua is accessible via ANU international airport. Depending on available connections, you can fly to Antigua via London or Frankfurt, for example.

The voyage ends in Penzance in Cornwall. From Penzance you can continue by train towards London. Another option is to travel by train or bus to Cornwall Airport Newquay. From Newquay there are direct flights to Düsseldorf.

Please always check current flight schedules, entry requirements and availability before departure.

Allow sufficient time around arrival and departure. On ocean voyages, wind and weather can influence the exact arrival time, even when buffer days are included in the programme.
