FULLY CATERED, A COMPLETE PACKAGE
During this voyage you'll be thoroughly looked after aboard the Abel Tasman. In addition to three main meals, coffee and tea with something tasty are available at all times. There is plenty of fresh fruit, and small snacks are served in the evening.
Your bunk is already partly made up, and towels are laid out for you.
VOYAGE DESCRIPTION
NATURE, FREEDOM and DANISH FLAIR – an adventurous seven-day sailing voyage round Funen with wind in the sails. Every day a new horizon, new stories and unforgettable moments on the water. In 2026 the Abel Tasman will once again sail the round of Funen – and as always the wind shows us the way to this Danish "island of roses".
On Monday morning you arrive on board under your own steam in the German harbour town of Eckernförde.
After stowing your luggage in your 1- or 2-berth cabin, you meet your fellow travellers and the crew over a cup of coffee or tea. Once everyone is on board, the captain explains the special features and rules on board this sailing schooner. Based on the weather forecast, the provisional route for the voyage is also discussed.
YOU BECOME PART OF THE ABEL TASMAN CREW
Before we cast off, the crew conducts sail and safety training on the foredeck. You learn not only the names of the sails and the most important knots, but also how to behave safely in emergency situations. Once everything has been explained, it's lines away and Eckernförde Bay lies before us. The sails are set, the ship is brought on course – and the adventure begins.
On board there's something for everyone to do: take the helm, plot positions on the chart, tidy the deck or help prepare meals in the galley.
Sailing experience is by no means necessary – more important is the enjoyment of joining in and the desire to experience this adventure to the full.
THE ITINERARY
Let yourself be swept away for a week on an unforgettable sailing adventure, past quiet fjords, enchanting islands and charming harbours.
From Eckernförde, with its picturesque harbour, we set course for the Danish island of Fyn (Funen), shaped during the Ice Age: gentle hills, deep ravines and a diverse flora and fauna characterise the landscape.
Here nature, freedom and Danish flair merge, whilst on board everyday life fades and the adventure takes its course. Every morning we decide together where the voyage will take us — the wind shows us the way.
Our first stop on Danish soil is probably Sønderborg, a town with a lively harbour and the imposing Sønderborg Castle, which overlooks the fjord. A tip: visit the free viewing point in Hotel Alsik; from the 16th floor at 46 metres you have a fantastic view over the town and the Dybbøl Mill.
We then sail along the southwest coast of Funen to Middelfart, with a good chance of seeing seals and porpoises swimming around the ship.
Alternatively we continue the voyage to Assens, a picturesque harbour town, ideal for a stroll or to enjoy local specialities.
On the northwest coast lies Bogense, with a cosy harbour in the middle of the village, cafés, shops and a lovely beach. Here you'll also find special sculptures such as Elle the mermaid, a replica of the Belgian Manneken Pis or the sculpture Washing Mother & Child. Next we sail to Nyborg, with the imposing Nyborg Castle and a view of the Great Belt Bridge – an unforgettable moment from the ship. Underway, sheltered anchorages offer ideal opportunities for a refreshing swim, a SUP tour or a trip in the dinghy, or simply to enjoy the sunset and the conviviality on board.
If time permits, we visit Svendborg, one of the liveliest harbours on Funen. The town radiates maritime charm, with cosy alleyways, cafés and a typically Danish atmosphere – perfect for a short walk or to enjoy a drink by the water. Not far from Svendborg lies Lyø, a small, idyllic island where time seems to stand still. The village is cosy and colourful, with winding streets, traditional houses and views over meadows and the sea. Ideal for walking, photography or simply to enjoy the peace and quiet. Finally the sailing trip can continue to Marstal, a low-lying harbour town full of hollyhocks. Marstal is famous for its maritime history. Stroll along the quay, admire the traditional shipyards and try regional specialities in one of the many cafés. On Sunday we sail to Kiel-Holtenau, the destination of this special sailing voyage.
After seven days on the water, with wind in the sails, endless horizons and new experiences, you feel relaxed, recharged and full of unforgettable memories.
