Galini, our Hanse 575, is a true blue-water yacht – created for life and travel at sea. We're on the move with warm-hearted people, discovering the world together and experiencing real boatlife: sun, wind, salt water, little adventures and the feeling of truly discovering something together as a crew. Galini is at home on the sea and usually far from her home port on Poros. You're part of life on board. Things won't always go to plan – sometimes something breaks or the weather changes our course – but that's exactly what makes it real. We're also very happy to show you the technicalities on board, and you can be involved in all activities – navigating, steering, cooking right through to the technical side. Not a cruise, but a lived community, genuine experiences and the magic of the sea.

Highlights

• Menorca as Biosphere Reserve – The entire island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with a rugged north coast, pine forests and crystal-clear water

• Mallorca's northwest coast – The Serra de Tramuntana (UNESCO World Heritage) from the water: Port de Sóller, Sa Calobra with the Torrent de Pareis gorge, Sa Foradada and the cliffs near Deià

• Palma de Mallorca – Crowning finale in the capital of the Balearic Islands with Gothic cathedral, lively old town and yacht harbour

Sailing area

This trip connects two fascinating sailing areas: the open sea between Sardinia and the Balearic Islands and the island world of Menorca and Mallorca. The crossing from Cagliari to Menorca (~230 nm) is the navigational centrepiece – a genuine offshore passage with more than one night at sea. Menorca offers us an unspoilt sailing area with two secure harbours (Mahón and Ciutadella) and numerous sheltered bays along the calmer south coast. Menorca can be rough on the north coast due to the Tramontana wind – the south coast, by contrast, usually provides calm conditions. The crossing to Mallorca (Ciutadella → Alcúdia, ~35 nm) is short and straightforward. Mallorca's northwest coast along the Serra de Tramuntana is among the most impressive coastal landscapes in the Mediterranean – spectacular cliffs, hidden coves and the harbours of Sóller and Andratx offer safe stopping points. A buffer day on Mallorca's north coast gives us the flexibility that October weather demands. Departure from Palma de Mallorca is straightforward from anywhere thanks to the large international airport.

Trip

Our adventure begins on Saturday in Cagliari, Sardinia. After boarding, getting to know one another and the safety briefing, we prepare for the major crossing. In the evening we cast off – course Menorca. Around 230 nautical miles lie ahead of us, more than one night on the open sea. We settle into the watch system, navigate by the stars and experience sunrise and sunset at sea. Arriving in Mahón, we are greeted by one of the world's most impressive natural harbours – six kilometres long, lined by the mighty La Mola fortress, small islands and the charming old town. After a rest day to recover, we explore Menorca's famous south coast: the bays of Cala Turqueta, Cala Galdana and Cala Macarella are among the Mediterranean's most beautiful anchorages – in October we lie there almost alone, with only the turquoise water and pine forests around us. Via Ciutadella with its Gothic old town and picturesque harbour basin, we cross to Mallorca. The north coast with the Bay of Alcúdia welcomes us before we experience the spectacular northwest coast along the Serra de Tramuntana – Port de Sóller, the Sa Calobra gorge with the Torrent de Pareis, the Sa Foradada peninsula and the cliffs at Deià from the water. Via Port d'Andratx we finally reach Palma de Mallorca, where our trip ends. Which harbours and bays we call at exactly and how long we stay where is decided – as in real sailing – by the wind, the weather and the crew together.

For everyone collecting miles for their next sailing licence: As we cross open water on this trip, plenty of nautical miles go into the log. We will of course issue you with an official mile confirmation at the end of the voyage.

Wind & climate

Early October offers wonderful sailing conditions in the Balearics: air temperatures are 20–25°C, the water a pleasant 22–23°C – more than warm enough for swimming. The sun is lower and bathes the islands in a particularly warm, golden light. On the passage from Sardinia to Menorca, changing winds are possible – from light calms to strong Tramontana from the north. That is precisely why we choose the departure time carefully. On Menorca the Tramontana (north wind) dominates the north coast, while the south coast is usually sheltered and calm. Along Mallorca's northwest coast the wind can be channelled by the high mountains of the Tramuntana – impressive sailing against a spectacular backdrop. In October one must expect occasional periods of bad weather – the two buffer days give us the necessary flexibility for this. Most of the time, however, brilliant autumn sunshine and good sailing winds await us.

The yacht

Our beautiful GALINI is a very fast, large and comfortable yacht. She was in the Caribbean over the winter and is crossing the Atlantic in April/May.

She is a modern Hanse 575 with 4 double cabins and a skipper's cabin. Each cabin has its own head with electric toilet. Wi-Fi via Starlink (optional), multimedia, generator 220 V / 7 KW (230 V in all cabins), washing machine, air fryer and coffee machine. She has large solar panels, radar, AIS, a watermaker, hydraulic bathing platform and a dinghy with outboard motor. A comprehensive array of safety and navigation equipment and much more besides – in short, everything you need to be self-sufficient on the go without needing to call at a provisioning harbour. A yacht that meets the highest standards for safety, design and comfort.

The sailing characteristics are outstanding too! The Hanse was designed by Volvo Ocean racers and is the fastest yacht in her class. Sailing pleasure guaranteed!

Marine Infinite

We want to make sailing more sustainable and environmentally friendly. On GALINI we test different products that give you a great sailing experience whilst placing less strain on the environment. At the same time she is on a voyage to explore the world. Her base is on Poros, Greece. Usually, though, she is away on long voyages. Our small team of skippers looks forward to sharing a real sailing experience with you!
