The Baltic Sea is one of the best sailing areas in the world thanks to excellent wind conditions. Almost always there are optimal wind conditions here, calms and severe storms are rare, and in fresh winds the narrow waters repeatedly offer shelter from high seas. Stable high-pressure systems bring moderate to strong easterly winds. That's not typical, but it does happen. What is typical is the rapid change between high and low pressure, troughs, frontal passages, rear-side weather, and it's also typical that there's almost always a sailing breeze.

Here's something for everyone who appreciates wind, water and hands-on work – and doesn't need a boat that does everything at the push of a button.

The trip:

We're a small, active sailing crew looking for a few more experienced sailors who know that you need to muck in on board. The trip starts and ends in Lübeck – we'll be sailing on an older, honest schooner with character: teak, rigging, handwork. It smells of wood, wind and a bit of diesel – real sailing, not a luxury liner.

Here everyone takes the helm, navigates, moors, anchors or tries their hand at a night passage between leading lights.
We like the down-to-earth life on board: early departure, midday snack on deck, evening harbour or anchorage – depending on wind and mood.

We share the low charter costs fairly in our bareboat community. And that includes travel cancellation, deposit, accident and consequential damage insurance!
Important: If you like to get involved, are physically mobile and enjoy 'real' sailing, you're a perfect fit. If you're looking for relaxation, you'll find it here – but between manoeuvres, not on a sun lounger.

Yes, and of course you'll get a nautical miles confirmation with the ship's stamp in your logbook on request

And the onboard expenses such as provisions, harbour fees and diesel usually come to about €16–18 per person per day and are shared equally among everyone.

We also enjoy watching nature, encountering harbour porpoises and, more recently, grey seals,
you learn a great deal about sailing on traditional sailing vessels.
