🛥️ Leg 1: Bonaire → San Blas

Pure adventure! We begin by enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of Bonaire – clear skies, turquoise water and gentle north-east trade winds. Between January and April (the best season) we use the wind for our first offshore passage: around 500 nautical miles north-west. After a weather window with moderate winds, we set off towards San Blas, passing Curaçao and the Colombian coast.
Crew work & tactics: Night watches, course monitoring and wind management are essential. With a steady 20–25 knots of trade wind we sometimes sail very briskly. The Lotte shows her strengths here – excellent seaworthiness and comfort in Caribbean seas.

🌴 Leg 2: San Blas Islands – island hopping & culture

Next we reach the sheltered Guna region of Guna Yala, an archipelago of 365 islands, about 50 of which are inhabited.
At El Porvenir or Carti we turn in, pay the local fee and make contact with the Kuna – encountering their traditional wooden canoes, molas and their lived community principles.
We sail through Cayos Limón, Holandeses, Coco Bandero & Blanco – each stop offers new snorkelling spots, picturesque beaches and wildlife encounters (nurse sharks, colourful reefs). Navigation amongst the coral requires vigilance and knowledge.
Evenings under palm trees, Guna cultural evenings and beach barbecues round off our sailing legs.

🌊 Leg 3: San Blas → Panama (Shelter Bay)

After a few days of island bliss we make the final passage:
40–60 nautical miles along the coast to Shelter Bay.
Finally, we enjoy Shelter Bay Marina – with jungle, monkeys, parrots and a familial atmosphere.
A trip to set the offshore sailor's heart racing – long-distance cruising and holiday paradise in one: tropical bays, Guna culture, island romance and star-studded nights at sea. Our focus: ambitious sailing paired with mindful enjoyment.

We sail with Lotte, a Bavaria C51 from 2017. Lotte is a special vessel and is constructed without restrictions for ocean use and certified by the Berufsgenossenschaft. She sovereignly takes even high waves and delights with excellent seakeeping. Comfort and dynamics have been uncompromisingly combined, so that a cosy camaraderie on board and an intensive sailing experience await us.
