Sailing and hiking adventure on Dominica

On this adventurous sailing and hiking voyage to Dominica you sail from island to island, undertake the famous hike to the Boiling Lake, meet the people of the Kalinago tribe, an ancient people in the mountains of Dominica, and glide silently over the Indian River whilst watching out for rare tropical birds.

A typical ten-day trip looks like this:

Day 1
Welcome aboard in Guadeloupe, at the Jacques Cousteau Reserve. Take a first swim in the crystal-clear water and enjoy a drink at sunset.

Day 2
We sail to the Iles des Saintes, an idyllic group of islands with picturesque houses, vibrant marine life and wild beaches.

Day 3
Onwards to Dominica. After our arrival we anchor in a bay surrounded by mountains. Friendly locals come by in their canoes and sell us fresh bananas.

Day 4
Hike on Section 13 of the Dominica Trails. A moderately challenging tour with magnificent views. You get to know the tropical rainforest and keep watch for parrots.

Day 5
Hike to the Boiling Lake. This demanding tour takes us to a volcanic lake that appears to be boiling. In the evening we celebrate our success on the beach with a rum punch in hand.

Day 6
Today we explore the Indian River. As motors are not allowed here, a local guide rows us through the mangroves and shows us the hiding places of the most extraordinary birds. Along the way we pass Calypso's hut from Pirates of the Caribbean. In the afternoon there is an opportunity for a hike in Cabrits National Park. In addition to magnificent views, there is plenty of history and even a well-preserved former military installation to discover here.

Day 7
A very special day. Together with a local guide we visit the Kalinago Territory. This people, descendants of the Caribs, live in seclusion high in the mountains. A truly unique experience.

Day 8
We say goodbye to Dominica and sail on to Martinique. We drop anchor off the town of St Pierre. The former capital was completely buried under ash in 1902 by a volcanic eruption. This story is impressively told in a small museum.

Day 9
We sail on to Fort de France, the current capital of Martinique. We anchor next to the city park with a view of the historic fort to which the city owes its name.

Day 10
Farewell and end of the trip.
