This leg is the big step out.
Around 2,100 nautical miles across the open Atlantic. No alternative harbours, no land on the horizon. Just us, wind and time.

We start in Mindelo on São Vicente. Cape Verde is the last outpost; after that the trade winds begin. The trip leads directly westwards, into the rhythm of the ocean. Days and nights merge, the horizon remains wide, everyday life reduces to the essentials.

Sailing is at the centre.
Watches, navigation, weather observation, sail trim and decisions are all part of daily life aboard. Anyone who wishes can be part of it. Things are explained, connections made clear, responsibility gradually shared. It's not about training, but about experience. About understanding offshore sailing by living it.

Jan has been sailing this route for many years. Atlantic passages are part of his everyday life, without becoming routine. This experience flows into life aboard, calmly, clearly and without pretence. Safety doesn't come from control, but from knowledge, routine and a crew on the journey together.

The trade winds carry us. Mostly broad reaching, often constant, sometimes demanding. The boat runs well, the days take on structure, the nights their own rhythm. Time loses its usual meaning. It's not about arriving as quickly as possible, but about being on the way.

After about two weeks, Martinique appears on the horizon. Landfall after a proper ocean passage. A moment that stays with you.
