NORTH CAPE 1 – Tromsø to Kirkenes – PO-08-05-2027-R

The starting point of our adventurous voyage is the "Paris of the North" — for that is exactly what the Norwegians call the tranquil yet bustling Tromsø. Over the past decades, numerous expeditions towards the Arctic and Svalbard have set out from here. The famous polar explorer Roald Amundsen also departed from here on his final voyage. A great deal of maritime atmosphere and living history awaits us, then. Through the partly open but also narrow inshore passages and fjords of northern Norway, we now continue northwards. We make numerous stops at larger and smaller harbours or spend the night at anchor in unspoilt nature. With Hammerfest we also pass what claims to be the world's northernmost town, before approaching the famous North Cape. Here we shall make fast in Honningsvåg, from where we visit the North Cape overland. We now sail eastwards along Norway's northern coast. Shortly before the Russian maritime border we then turn south and make for our trip destination, Kirkenes. Expected trip itinerary:

We sail with POLARIS from Tromsø through the intricate passages and fjords of northern Norway towards the North Cape. On numerous stopovers amidst Norway's fascinatingly beautiful scenery, you experience Nordic nature and way of life at first hand. With Kirkenes we finally reach the centre of the North, right on the Russian border. From here you travel comfortably home by air via Oslo or Tromsø. Depending on weather and schedule, it may be necessary to cover longer sections of the voyage under engine. Total distance: approx. 350 nautical miles.
