A sailing trip along the rugged, beautiful northern coast of Spain – from Basque Bilbao to Galician La Coruña – is a journey full of contrasts, flavour and discovery. Two weeks that bring together the Atlantic, culture and joie de vivre.
The start in Bilbao is all about Basque lifestyle: modern architecture meets ancient tradition, the Guggenheim Museum gleams in the autumn sun, and the pintxos bars are filled with the aroma of fresh fish, olive oil and the sea. Then it's time to cast off – out onto the Atlantic!
The sailing area in northern Spain is challenging and fascinating in equal measure. The Atlantic shows its wild side here – with strong winds, impressive swells and a coast that reveals itself in steep cliffs, green hills and secluded bays. For sailors, this is a true paradise.
Along the Basque, Cantabrian and Galician coast lie small harbours and towns that hardly anyone knows yet: Santander, Ribadesella, Gijón, Ribadeo – places where fishermen mend their nets on the quayside and you can enjoy Serrano ham, fresh seafood and robust wine in rustic taverns.
The destination, La Coruña, finally welcomes the crew with maritime flair and Galician charm. The famous Tower of Hercules – the world's oldest active lighthouse – marks the way into harbour. And in the evening, a festive meal of pulpo, Albariño and tales of the Atlantic awaits.
