SPITZBERGEN Outbound – Tromsø to Longyearbyen – PO-19-06-2027-R
The starting point of our adventurous Svalbard expedition is the "Paris of the North". That's exactly what Norwegians call the charming yet vibrant Tromsø. From here, numerous expeditions set out towards the Arctic and Svalbard over the past decades. The famous polar explorer Roald Amundsen also departed from here on his final journey. So plenty of maritime atmosphere and living history await us. Depending on wind and weather, we'll head straight from here or with a stopover out onto the open Norwegian Sea heading north. A good 500 nautical miles lie ahead before we reach Longyearbyen, Svalbard's capital. If weather conditions permit, we can also make a stopover at the famous Bear Island halfway through. After clearing customs in Longyearbyen, we'll spend the remaining days of our voyage travelling along Svalbard's west coast, exploring not only some local settlements but also the lonely fjords and shores of the archipelago. Experience this unique adventure aboard our exclusively equipped expedition yacht POLARIS. An experience you'll draw on for a long time to come.
Expected trip itinerary:
We sail with the POLARIS from Tromsø out onto the open Norwegian Sea heading north. The distance to the south coast of Svalbard is then a good 400 nautical miles. Depending on wind and weather, a possible stopover would be the Bear Islands roughly halfway. After a brief stay in Longyearbyen, we will spend the rest of our trip sailing along the west coast of Svalbard. Here we visit the numerous fjords, smaller settlements and undertake various shore excursions. Depending on the weather and the schedule, it may be necessary to cover longer sections of the voyage under engine as well. Total distance: approx. 660 nautical miles.
This extraordinary trip is led by two of our professional skippers.
