SPITZBERGEN Return – Longyearbyen to Tromsø – PO-04-09-2027-R

The start of our adventurous Svalbard expedition is Longyearbyen, Svalbard's capital. Depending on wind and weather, we head from here either directly or with a stopover out onto the open Arctic Ocean heading south. A good 500 nautical miles then lie ahead of us before we reach the Norwegian mainland coast. If weather conditions allow, we can also make a stopover halfway at the famous Bear Islands. Our onward voyage then takes us right into the fascinatingly beautiful landscapes of northern Norway with its islands, fjords and small villages, before we reach the 'Paris of the North' – for that is exactly what Norwegians call the tranquil yet lively Tromsø. In past decades, numerous expeditions to the Arctic and Svalbard set out from here. Experience this unique adventure aboard our exclusively equipped expedition yacht POLARIS. Expected trip itinerary:

We sail with POLARIS from Longyearbyen out onto the open Arctic Ocean heading south. The distance to the Norwegian mainland coast is then a good 500 nautical miles. A possible stopover, depending on wind and weather, would be Bear Island at roughly the halfway mark. We then spend the rest of our trip sailing along the west coast of northern Norway to Tromsø, the destination of our long voyage. Depending on weather and schedule, it may be necessary to cover longer sections of the voyage under engine. Total distance: approx. 660 nautical miles.
