Exploring the Wadden Sea – Island-hopping the East Frisian and Dutch islands – Active sailing

Cast off for a real Wadden Sea adventure! This long Wadden Sea trip takes you from Norddeich through the Wadden Sea and across the North Sea – with possible stops at the West and East Frisian islands, depending on wind and tides. No previous experience necessary: perfect for nature lovers, adventurers and those who really want to unwind!

The Pegasus is a genuine flat-bottomed ship, specially built for this region. In suitable weather conditions, she can therefore run aground on the mudflats. For this, the ship is deliberately beached on a sandbank after high water. The water then flows away with the ebb tide until the ship eventually lies dry on the seabed. Then you can go ashore and take a short mudflat walk. Don't miss this unique experience!

The first few days take us through the Wadden Sea, where we sail along the East Frisian Islands. Depending on wind and weather, we may make a stop at Borkum, Juist or Norderney. On each island, you'll find miles of beaches, unspoilt dunes and perhaps a pleasant walk through the quiet, vast landscape. For those who prefer to stay on board, it's the perfect time to enjoy the wind in the sails and clear your head.

If wind and weather cooperate, we set course westward and make a detour to the Dutch Wadden Islands – Schiermonnikoog, Ameland or Terschelling are on the agenda. Here you can discover typical Dutch island culture, explore small villages or settle down in a cosy harbour café. The West Frisian Islands also offer wonderful beaches and unspoilt nature. And who knows, you might be lucky and spot a few seals that have made themselves comfortable on the sandbanks!

After a week full of sea air, sunshine (hopefully) and plenty of adventure, we set course back to Norddeich.

Sailing through narrow channels, over sandbanks and calling at tide-dependent harbours requires a great deal of experience on the water and confident sail handling. A challenge that our experienced crew has been mastering for years and from which you can benefit. Whether you're an experienced sailor wanting to expand your knowledge of tidal waters, or a complete sailing beginner – on this voyage you can get to know the special characteristics of the Wadden Sea.

What's special about a sailing trip with the Pegasus? Thanks to her shallow draught she can (weather permitting) call at all the East Frisian Islands – from Borkum and Norderney to Spiekeroog and Langeoog. We've even regularly visited the tiny island of Neuwerk in recent years.

🔹Life on board
On the first sailing day, after breakfast you'll receive a detailed explanation of the ship and sails and a safety briefing. Then the sails are hoisted together and the course is set for the first destination harbour. The adventure begins! Together with the captain and mate, sails are set, manoeuvres are carried out and before reaching the harbour the sails are stowed away again. Besides active sailing, you can relax on deck, enjoy yourself, read, chat, peel potatoes, play board games, ask the crew endless questions, steer the ship (under supervision), practise knots, knit, and so on and so forth.... Cooking is done either during the voyage or in harbour. The guests prepare the meals together in small groups (according to a galley rota) and are supported by a trip leader. The trip leader does the shopping in advance and provides the recipes. He or she is on hand as a contact person during cooking.

The trip will take place on the two-masted clipper Pegasus and will be accompanied by an experienced and qualified crew. There will be approximately 6–18 guests on board. The Pegasus has a very large saloon which receives plenty of daylight through the skylights and is therefore pleasantly bright. It is divided into two parts: a cosy living area and a dining area. On the Pegasus there are a total of 7 spacious and bright cabins, of which 5 cabins have 2 berths and 2 cabins have 4 berths. All cabins have their own washbasin with running hot and cold water, mirror, heating, porthole for ventilation, 220V sockets and storage space. The berths are freshly made up with bed linen and pillowcase; a duvet can also be hired on request.
